Default SMSP Exhaust

I believe i read somewhere that Dave was going to offer an exhaust to bolt up to his header.

any more info on the exhaust? pictures? will it look identical to the exhaust he has for the B series?

Thanks.

Don

As David said earlier in many of his posts ( ) it will look very much like the B-series exhaust as it'll use basicly the identical parts, just different tubing to accomidate the bends in the Prelude.

I would love to see a pic of the b series exhaust, and how much does it run? H22 shouldnt be to much more hopefully.

I'll be building the exhaust using the 5th prototype header. I have access to a 4th gen car but without heat shields. I'll need a 5th gen car (SH maybe) also to determine if there are any differences.

Corey's got a base Prelude now but the header won't fit a H23. I can use his 4th gen but like I said, no heat shields.

Don't know, I haven't built it. But I will try to make it as quiet as possible. I don't think there are any 2-1/2" systems for the ITR that are quieter than mine.

The header was built to fit the 4th, 5th and SH models. However, it hasn't been installed on an SH, so I may use shakes car. There shouldn't be alot of difference between the 2 systems. Maybe just a little different length if the wheelbases are different. I haven't researched all of it yet.

Dave, I have my stock SH exhaust sitting in my closet and if you need some length measurements taken let me know. From what I've seen of all the other companies, the only difference from the base and SH exhausts is that the base's piping at the cat is a little longer to accomidate the differences between the SH and base header length. As many companies sell the SH exhaust and include a small extension tube to fit the base.

I've got a 5th gen base exhaust sitting in my garage...I'll take some measurements too if that helps. Let me know.

your ITR system, how does it flow and produce? I know you could make something super quiet, but that affects the flow and performance: Sound is nice but if it dont perform very well for the $$, why would it be worth it?

Noisy exhaust systems aren't needed to make power.. Yes, they are quiet, yes, they put down power too...

Just a suggestion, but would it be feasible to have the exhaust system use slip joints instead of conventional flanges? This would be useful for converting to quick open header exhaust for track days, etc. it would also look pretty cool

Why even bother? Slip joints are (i'm not 100% sure, but fairly sure) far more expensive than a set of flanges. As most flanges only are two or three bolts using a slip joint compared to taking off three bolts why bother incurring the additional cost? There's a reason to use slip joints over a flex pipe.

Hm...I didn't know slip joints were more expensive. I figured if the price was nominally more, I'd go for it. But if it's really leaps and bounds pricier, then I agree: screw it. Just a thought.

SGT ran one of my 2-1/2" full exhausts on his 2L ITR and was making more than 230whp.

SLip joints are not more expensive. The use of them will just depend on their location and the location of any joint needed in the system for shipping purposes.
