Costs of body work? Advice?
My little red rex has some minor rust on it (dime sized spot on the front driver side, right above the headlights on the end of that piece, little bit behind each rear wheel, and sunroof rust).
My friend's dad just recently fixed a lot of the rust on his truck, so having the right tools isn't really a problem. My front and rear bumper are kind of messed up. (The guy I bought it from drove the car to and back from work for 10 years.) So, I was planning on doing the following:
-Getting rid of the rust and repainting those spots
-Going to the junk yard and finding a new front and rear bumper off a CRX there.
OR...
-Getting rid of rust, in the process preparing the car for a paint job
-Buying a body kit, and get the whole car painted.
My problem is, I think almost all of the aftermarket body kits look really stupid on the CRX. I want ones that look similar to the stock ones, all the scoops and low fenders aren't my style. Also, this is a rebuilt car, It was rear ended at one time, and you can see how they fixed it when you look in the spare tire well... So I'm not sure if I want to invest money in this car, but fixing the rust is needed.
Would it be hard to match the 1991 paint on the car if I chose just to fix the parts that have rust on them? How much would it cost to have the whole car painted? (There isn't much surface area, sheesh, it takes me 20 minutes to wax the thing)
And another thing, Carbon Fiber hoods give me a BONER. Where can you get a carbon fiber hood for a '91 CRX Si? Dear lord those are sexy
Thanks guys

Hey Brah,
I'm feeling ya, I had the same dilema about six months ago. I has the CRX for 4 yrs, and did nothing with it, and contemplated selling it this past Spring and just get an Integra. Think about about it, 12-17k for a Integra @ 11.75% w/ lilttle $ down and 350+ monthly payments for 36-48 months, forget it! Well, I had a heart to heart drive w/ the CRX for one last time, and I fell in love with it all over again! I would have regret selling it at that time for I made a comittment to work out the things that were wrong with the car. 1st, body rust, mine had way more than you described. The rust by the wheel well was fixed at one time by the previous owner and started to bubble, the holes where the lower trim pieces attach to were the size of a baseball(imagine 6 holes on each side), and there was minor rust by the bottom of the doors. I bought Wings West RS kit(cleanest looking available), and had the car resprayed. It would ahve only cost $800-1000 for a complete respray. Ask me and I' ll tell you where. I did most of the body work my self and plus the kit made the the car look way better than the stock trim. I ended up having the body shop install the body kit. THat is were the $$ went to. I think as I look back at it now, I really could have done it myself. Anyway, if you want to see pics check this http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/generationspeedline And if you are gonna go for a total respray, def, get a different color, you'll feel and look as if your driving a new car, and fall in love over again. And since the car's paid for, no hassle w/ a monthly.

RE: Carbon Fiber hood. (I have a pic of a CRX with it on) Since you are in IL. take a trip to Top Speed in Chicago, they by far have the best prices. Here is their in info. 2877 S, Archer Ave. Chicago, IL. 60608 773-847-1188. Good luck!
*sigh* I'm not sure if I want to dump this kind of money in to a car that I only paid 2 grand for... I really only plan on keeping it through the winter, then getting an s2k.
