Default Does it matter what coldair intake?

Well until i save some money for used type-r i'm stuck with a 96 LS and as dumb as it gets it's an automatic. but anyways i love this car looks clean so i'm thinking of getting stock side skirts and front lip and maybe a cold air intake if that really does something.
AEM cost around $150 and i see some cheap ones but is it the pipe that makes AEM like name bland expensive? or just the name? or the filter?
cause i would like to by something around $50 and by HKS,AEM filter seperately which i found way cheaper on ebay. HKS filter for $5 lol please let me know since i'm really new to these things

if you are going to upgrade and get a C5.. just get an ITR AEM now. even better, why not get one of those J's racing replica short rams, i notice alot of people getting rid of their AEM's for these. i think they can be bought new for $75. they are supposed to have GREAT throttle respone and top end.

The intake for an LS is the same as an intake for an R... so you will be able to reuse it if you buy one now...
And no... there is nothing special about the tube that aem uses, i bought my bomz racing cold air intake for 40 bucks shipped on ebay and it works great, makes nice power.

no the butt dyno is not reliable but the fact of the matter is any AEM copy will get the job done, hell you can even throw on a K&N filter and there you have it... exact duplicate of AEM. there is nothing special about their system... unless you are talking about the $200+ V2.

I think the intake tubing for the LS is 2.5", while for the Type R it's 3". I don't think it would match up to the ITR's larger throttle body, so you probably wouldn't be able to reuse it.

People buy the AEM for several proven horsepower and for the sound. I love my AEM CAI. I have heard several other company's short rams and CAI's and none of them sound as good as the AEM CAI. I don't know how they do on power.

There is one in the classifieds right now, I think You could try a DIY icebox. With a K&N drop-in filter.
