What tire pressure for the best 1/4 time?
My front are usually set at 18-20 psi in the front and about 50 psi in the back. How low can I set the pressure up front before 1/4 times start getting slower?
40 in the fronts 45 in the rear...but everyone has their preferences
your speed will go down with every PSI you take out of the fronts...i guess the happy medium is to find when the pressure helps you enough in the launch to not slow you down, near the end....I personally am very happy running at 40 psi...its all in the launch technique

how does the lower the psi = the slower ur 1/4 time? I thought the lower the psi = the smaller diameter of the wheel = the more you car stays in the higher rpms. Can someone please explain.
rolling resistance...try it and see
my car runs a 15.03 @ 94.5 mph on streets at 40 psi
the other day i was running 15.00 @ ~ 93 mph with drag radials at 32 psi (they are a little wider also which produces more resistance)

Try pushing a car with flat tire, then push it with properly inflated tires. As you know it is much easier for ito push the inflated tires. It is the same for your engine. You can launch at higher rpms but you motor is working harder to get the car moving down the track.

Your 60' time is the most important of the run....so go somewhere around 14-22 psi at the track..... DON'T run 35 +..... you will spin tires like crazy....
I think this thread would be more useful if you state your pressure and launch technique. You can go with low pressure in sticky tires, spin off the line and get good grip. Or the technique I think someone like 01gsr would use, use high pressure for less resistance and launch at 3500-4500 with lots of clutch slipping. I have tried both on an FWD car. The slipping appears more effective. My clutch does not like this too much though. RWD cars seem to like some wheel spin to get them going.
what type of slicks should i get for the strip? nittro drag radials? mickey thompson? i have an xtra set of 14's + 15's to use... which should i choose? thanks!
I have used the BFG old style drag radials, if you heat them up good they really stick. I run them in front at about 20 psi and leave the rear tire were they always are. On my street tires I usually just run them as they are.
i launch from 5500 and slip the clutch...2.32 60 ft on the stock michlins...i got some kuhmos now tho, we'll see how they grip next time i go
by the way, i also run on some Nitto Drag radials...on 14's...very happy with them

i have no complaints...but the real test will be next time I hit the track...see how they hook up with another 55 hp on tap
