Haven't really heard much about the guy lately, but I was watching the special features of the 2Fast 2Furious DVD at my friend's house and there was a guy that looked like Randy Pobst/Joe Subaru in the passenger seat of the cars that were being driven on an autocross course by the actors. I am pretty sure it's him but just wasn't sure.

I haven't seen 2Fast, 2 Frivolous but Randy is a Florida guy where the movie was supposed to be based.

Randy is driving the Champion Audi RS6 in Speed GT this season and guest driving in a number of other cars. I met him in '96 or '97 when he was driving the Neuspeed/TC Kline Accord in the North Americican Touring Car Series and have had the pleasure to run into him every few years since. He is really an entertaining guy with a great sense of humor. He is a mix of great talent and skill but no big ego. Always a smile on his face and a ready laugh, something you don't see often in the pro ranks where eveyone takes themselves so seriously.

Were I ever in a position to be the money man behind a professional sports car aracing team, Randy and Boris Said would be my two picks for the hired guns.

 

One of my all-time favorite car-related memories: Watching the Speed Touring race last year in DC sitting next to Randy Pobst. That bastard is hysterical!!!

I'm 99% sure it was him, I saw it yesterday. Unfortunately even with Randy teaching them they still didn't learn ****, if they'd only pay attention instead of playing. He is a very nice and down to earth guy, I met him at a local auto-x last year and of course he owned everyone.

I'll pass, thanks anyway. I saw the first one on a borrowed DVD and I felt that cost me too much- that segment of time in my life that I will never have back. I am too much of an old school purist to have about anything but contempt. I am sure many liked it and that is fine but just not my favorite flavor. I'll just watch "LeMans" again if I need a car movie fix.

Actually, Randy has been kicking all kinds of butt this year. His primary ride is the factory Speed World Challenge Audi (second in GT points), but he has also been driving in Grand-Am Cup when his schedule permits it. He also drove our MINI Cooper S at an enduro earlier this year. A truly nice guy.

I second that. In fact, his team WON the Grand-Am Cup race overall this past Saturday afternoon at VIR in a 911; here is a pic:

I watched the episode of Speed Channel's Test Drive with Pobst, Michael Galati, and Tommy Kendall when the Audi RS6 and S4 were featured. He(Pobst) seems like a really cool guy and is a hell of a driver!
