Default Running rich = burnt up cat?

The turbo is getting close to it's install time and I'm trying to decide whether or not to run my gutted cat or real cat. The only thing holding me back from the real cat is that I'll probably be running rich safe tunes. Isn't this when cats get burnt up or clogged...when extra gas vapors don't get burned up in the cylinders and finish burning in the cat?? makes it red hot etc.?? Basically will running rich **** up the cat?

Yea that's what I thought. I'll save the cat for emission testing and boost on the gutted bitch
