I am on #13 and it is dying. Seems like the napa/checker ones die slow miserable deaths via the outer joint clicking itself to death and the DSS ones just explode upon aggresive launches. I seems like after maybe 2-3 HPDE events my outer joints are fried. The boots look fine it is just that they click like crazy.......
does this happen to anyone else?
car is a turbo accord, nothing too crazy

two of my cv boots took dumps last time i was at the track. it got me thinkin if theres anything i can coat the boots with to prevent them from cracking and leaking grease everywhere... i've got this stuff you can spray on rubber belts thats supposed to help them not squeak, last longer, and not slip. i wonder if thats something i can spray on the boots as well to help prolong their life. anyone done this/thought about this before? would i have to be a guinea pig if people think its a good idea?

I was going through axles like mad recently. After we installed the third one at a single event, we checked and found that the crossmember that the rear motor mount is on had 3 of the 4 bolts pretty loose. The axle we put in then has lasted for a couple races now and counting.
I forgot more about hondas then you will ever know....

yes. napa/auto zone/discount auto store suck. dss suck. stock is decent, but break under prolonged use. i have had good luck with Raxles.com axles. he has a few different varieties, but i went with his IMSA road race axle. so far, so good. no breaks. http://www.raxles.com gets a

Are you a drag racer or a road racer? Do you run a lot of camber? How much horsepower are your running. You shouldn't be breaking axels either you a problem in your geometry or your car is putting out tremendous amounts of horsepower.

I have been running this whole season on Pep Boys axles. I launch the car on 25's at 6k, broke 3 axles all season. 2 axles were because i was trying out a rock solid rear suspension, and could have been avoided. So.. the axles dont suck, sometimes its just the drivers that suck

well, i am not a drag racer. i am a autocrosser. discount stores and DSS (3 sets before i gave up) just plain suck for a fast fwd autocross car. the outer cv joints cannot handle the combined stress of serious lsd, large sticky hoosiers, lfb, tight radius corners, and my measily 186whp. you are right though, i guess my driving sucks. i ask too much of junk axles...

that was the last axles i broke before getting the new ones from marty.cas you can see, i do not have an axle shaft issue, but an outer cv issue. the stock ones last a while, but give up eventually. DSS has vibration issues, and outer cv's last half as long as a stock axle. reman axles from discount stores are good for the average car, but last as long as the DSS ones.

glad to hear you figured out the problem.

i was there for one of rodney's axle breakes. i think it was what he said. stickey tires+crazy d20 diff + tight radius turn. everyone was supprised when he had it changed in 15 minutes tho
. people are still talking about it.
as for myself, i have actually broken an autoxone axle (and i have street tires, open diff and about 50whp). the inner cv sxploded. bad build quality i guess. they swore i was drag racing the car or had crazy power but had to warranty it.

Only time I ever tried a non-Honda or non-Raxles.com axle, I got less than two days out of it. Brand new. Both joints seized and turned purple.
Never, ever again. And it wasn't even that much cheaper than a raxles one.

I have had the same problem with discount auto store axles. I replaced on in my GTI ( not a easy chore btw) and the car was worse off, the car vibrated and shook. I then put the stock, 100k axle back in and it has been ok ever since.

Well sheet, I suck worse than Chris and I never once busted an axle. Boot's maybe but never an axle yet (knocks on own head.)
Get whatever axles rodney runs, trust us, if they're tough enough for him they're tough enough for almost all of us. (Some exceptions besides SIXTYdashONE of course.)
I got a chuckle out of this post earlier and just HAD to come back.
Hey rodney, why can't I bust my axles like you? Don't I got Da MaD sKiLlZ yO?
I want to be like rodney and break everything Wahhh, wahhh, wahhh, I want to break the ATS civic Too! Wahhh, wahhh, Wahhh.

Hey, i wasnt trying to bust ***** guys, i was just stating that sometimes the axles are not always the problem. I know guys that have similiar setups to mine, and go through axles like they mass produced them.. I am aware that drag racing and atuo-x are different, but im just trying to give you some different angles to look at the problem from. Good luck fellahs
