Default What happens when you submerge an icebox style intake?

sounds to me like it'll hydrolock.. anyone make a custom "bypass valve?" or would cutting holes in the piping do the trick?

?? There's holes in the air horn to prevent hydrolock if it were to possibly be submerged.

whoops, might have to punch some holes in my BSQ DIY icebox then.. you know how big the holes are?

yea good question.. comptech says its safe from water. well what does happen when you submerge the pipe? seems to me it would hydrolock so whats the diff from having the filter down below as to up in the engine with a pipe down below

my plan, (utilizing the stock filter holder thing) is something of this nature...



I will basically cut 4 quarter circles in my airbox, in the middle drill a hole, below that hole put a plate that covers the hole, below that place a very low pressure spring (as in it doesn't take much force to make the spring open) and make sure there is about 1" of clearance between the plate and the air box when the spring is completely open.

I don't know if it will work, but it is worth a try I will deffinately update to the boards when I have completed hacking up my airbox

no idea how much CFM this will flow, but I think with 1" of travel, and I am thinking it will be about a 5" diameter circle, this should be overkill.
