Craftsman Aluminum Jack
i know jacks have been talked about in this forum before so i figured id post here. has anyone had any experience with the new lightweight aluminum jacks sears now has to offer?
I swear to God I went into my local Sears not 2 weeks ago inquiring about aluminum jacks. They looked at me like I had 2 heads or something, and said "...I ain't never heard of an aluminum jack...it ain't strong enough...."
@#$@$%!!!
@#$@$%!!!
Saw it yesterday. Looked pretty decent, but I didn't pick it up. (Ad says it's 44 lbs which is 10 pounds heavier than a HF jack but about 200 less than the crappy Taiwan jack in my garage. It is 2 ton, instead of 1.5 like the HF jacks. Plus it's got the Crapsman guarantee. http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr...39000

I have a few friends that work there...Myself and the rest of them are getting one for the garage. Oh ya it's real light I picked it up over my head, not something I would of ever thought about trying with my heavy *** jack.
I just saw one at SAM's club yesterday. It was only $132, and came with a piece of foam wrapped around the handle to keep from dinging your doors.

My local store has one ordered for me (on 10/3). I have a Brunheozel knockoff from NESCO and it works great. This is similar to the Craftsman, but has a 1-piece handle. I'll know about the new one 10/7-like tonight!

Madd Matt: I've given up on asking Sears' folks for advice. One guy seemed to believe that the black-painted chests were better than the red-painted ones. He didn't make any distinction between regular Craftsman chests, the ball-bearing models, and the Professional lines. But he was *sure* that black was always better than red when dealing with Craftsman toolboxes, and worth the $50 extra (anyone notice that certain colors of the same item go one sale on different days?) I think they tell those guys to sound really sure even when they aren't just to make a sale of *something.* Sad, if you ask me, but a good reason to just do all your research outside of the showroom.
-Adam (happy with his new Sears ball-bearing black bigass toolbox that he got on sale.)

The black chests are better...
They use thicker gauge steel on the walls and drawers, and have increased structural ribs...
well, thats what I remember from training

*All* the black chests, or the Professional line which comes *only* in black? I compared the same model (aside from color) chest that I bought (5 drawer, ball-bearing sliders, griplatch system) with the red version and noticed no differences.

the Sam's club jack looks and probably is exactly the same as the Larin jack. I have bought both the Larin and HF jack and find the HF jack much better in use and contruction, except that middle handle makes the Larin jack much more carryable. The HF jack gets a bit lower, goes a bit higher, and is easier to pump (at least mine, bad hydraulic on my Larin i tihnk, compared to another Larin owner which was easier than mine, but I even sent the hydraulic back to see if they could fix it but it was returned iwth no change). So i really dont recommend th Larin jack, i just feel back that I was part of spreading of the word for it while waiting for the HF jack to come on sale.
I purchased the Craftsman last week and was not impressed with it, I returned it 2 days after buying it and I will be getting the HF now. It took too much effort to jack the car up and too many pumps to reach max height.
I forgot more about hondas then you will ever know....

wow, lists on sears.com as being 2 pumps... it was more than that? maybe you had a bad jack?

to raise a car in two pumps is going to require a huge amount of effort, just by the physics alone. the key to hydraulic power is exchanging distance for force, but equal the same work (work = force*distance). so to ask for something that requires less force and less distance for the same amount of work is not possible.

Review:
YES I actually have it in the shop. Sears delivered 10 days early based on the estimate
. The construction is first rate. The 2 piece handle is nicely made, but I would have preferred a threaded type rather than the pin latch. Worked fine right out of the box. The Warranty is for 1 year. They give a simple users guide and parts list for this unit. There is a small magnetic parts tray/ cover for ram that is easily removed to service the jack if it needs oil. For those concerned about the 2 pump issue-this is 2 pumps to the chassis lifting point. Good luck to all who buy this one-I think it will do a good job.
