The tig is going to be stainless steel, while the mig would be mild steel at best. It is possible that the tig is simply tig welded mild steel, but there is no way that the mig unit is mig welded stainless. Mig is a welding process where the heat source for the welding is provided by an arc coming from the filler material, AKA wire feed. This method works quite nicely, and makes nice welds. Metal Inert Gas, uses Argon to keep air away from the weld, so it makes clean welds. Stainless steel canoot be MIG welded due to it's elemental composition. Tig welding is Tungsten Inert Gas. This is the pimp way to weld. It uses a super hard tungsten electrode to arc to the metal to be welded. this creates a sputterless pool of metal, into which a filler material, held in your other hand can be manually added to, to fuse two metal surfaces together. Since you control the feed of filler directly with your hand, and the tungsten tip can be very sharp and won't melt, tiny precision welds can be made with TIG welding. TIG is as much an artform as it is a useful joining technique. TIG welding is generally much stronger than MIG, and the welds won't crack under heat stress nearly as easy as MIG'd welds. For the price, I'd go with the TIG model, although depending on the powerband you want, the 4-2-1 could win out over the 4-1. If you want top end, go with the 4-1. The try-Y 4-2-1 is beter at low rpm scavenging and brings midrange tourque fidures up, but sacrifices top end flow, due to the three 2-1 collecters VS the single 4-1 collecter on the 4-1 header. ANyone correct me if I'm off base here, but I belive my info is correct. I'd buy a TIG 4-2-1 if I wanted a quality, fun to drive car. see if they offer that. 4-1 will be quicker in the 1/4 if you are making moderate power.

Your Wrong!!!!! Every SS exuahst I weld up at work i use a MIG on. I have to use a diff gas and wire than I usually would for Mild steel but it works. The wire and gas I use is designed for SS. I don't know if you just herd the jibberish you typed or you actually work on cars. But I work with a lot of supra owners being a mechannic. and usually they don't know **** about their cars!!!!!

Well you can MIG weld Stainless, however any person with half a brain would TIG weld it if they had the option to. The welds come out stronger and better looking than a MIG would, and TIG can take the expanding and contracting a stainless header wil have. Where as MIG has a greater chance of tearing out where the weld meets the header. Usually you will only see stainless MIG welds on products of mass production due to it's cost and speed efficiency. Or if the company cares about producing a high quality product they will laser or laser fuse the product.

Damn man kick back on the personal attack there, VanishSupra actually had some good points and a well informed write up on welding there. Better than most of the ones I have seen on here. I have been a Welder and Metal fabricator for over 10 years now and after working with alot of mechanics, I find that most mechanics don't know **** about welding!!! or metal composits and what should be welded with what.

I stand corrected,, you can MIG it,, however, Mig welds suck on stainless. Thanks for the backup roadrage,, and I do know **** about cars, so keep your negative comments to your self please.
