I have the SOHC ZC sittin on my stand in the garage right now, it was my old motor. And YES, u are a little undereducated. If anyone wants to buy my old SOHC ZC swap, PM me. It comes with all kinds of extras.
Welcome to the wonderful world of japanese imported motors, i have a single cam ZC in my 4g hatch. got it from K. Wantanabe motors. When I trashed my stock motor I resorted to buying one. I asked for a D16A6, this is what i got. On the block its just says ZC<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by CRneXt »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Check this out...http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...74370

OK, then. I now have a new avenue to explore intellectually. This could be fun... I like what ifs, and maybes. Thanks all for the enlightenment.

you are correct, nothing to bitch about, mine seems to have come with larger injectors. The car ran extremely rich before I added the DualCam ECU to the single cam motor.

I doubt it. Most Honda injectors of these years are the same. D16A6 and B16A injectors are the same. I think the power comes from higher comp. and a better cam.

I have one with I/H/E, clutch, Skunk 2 manifold and a catco cat. It PULLS! The manifold made a HUGE difference, but even without it and the cat, it still pulled WAY harder than my old A6
Actually, the JDM sohc ZC from 1988 was rated at 120PS. That would be about 118Hp. Let's stress the difference between PS and Hp ratings.
And while we're on the subject of correct ZC output. The dohc zc from the same year made 130PS. So 128ish Hp....Not 130 or 135Hp that frequently gets quoted.
And one to really bend your mind: The browntop ZC from the previous year made 135 PS. So the older engine made more power...really makes a good argument for putting a browntop into a 1985 si.
This is all according to the Honda Press Information archives.

I couldn't find compression ratios, but they're in there somewhere.
btw...thanks for advertising the auction I was hoping to participate in.

Have you double and triple checked the cam timing? If you have a NON-HONDA OEM belt they can jump time reasily. A mistimed cam can easily do that, Mine pulls hard from around 3k and just keeps pulling harder right up to redline without letting up.
I've always heard "you don't want the browntop" when people talk about ZCs. is there a reason for this? or is it just cause it's older and has more issues due to age?

Exactly.
Also, the SOHC ZC had domed cylinder heads too if I'm not mistaken? I probably am, but that would explain more HP as well.

Browntops has Integra mounts and not honda mounts if I am not mistaken. Blacktops can have either, Makes a big difference bolting one into a honda.
Blacktop DOHC ZC has domed pistons, and superior cams, intake manifold and head compared to the browntop.

Well A DOHC requires minor wiring changes if you have a MPFI car to start with, I started with a DX with DPFI and the wiring took me a few hours but worked first try. Never hooked up a SOHC ZC nor have I seriously researched it, but believe it would not be hard going into a MPFI car. Of course this is all assuming a certain level of aptitude. It was easier for me to wire a my car than it is for some people to change a flat tire. I pulled and put in my new engine and wired it with no extra help. And by that I meant a second set of hands, did it alone. But had technical support from this board. That made it so much easier since I researched it thouroghly before I started.
Hey,
Try D-series.org ,For the DOHC ZC ; The Brown top comes 135hp and the black top comes with a 130hp, but also i am doing a swap in my 95 eg and i need the black top with the gray plug for obd-1,If anyone is selling one let me know.

All hondas from 88+ (not sure about before 88) had "domed" or "hemispherical" combustion chambers, meaning all hondas are "hemis"
btw, the SOHC ZC has dish pistons, however the dish is less than that of the d16z6/d16y8/d16y7

SOHC ZC's are D16A6 plain and simple
Until someone can take the stock SOHC ZC to a cam regrinding place, there's no way of telling the the cams are different. Yes some guy checked with his micrometer, but that doesn't tell anything about duration.
It's already been found that THE SOHC ZC HAS THE SAME PISTONS AS THE D16A6!!!
NO HEAD DIFF EITHER!!!
the only diff i can find is some run different smaller looking intake manifolds.
I'm planning on doing a MASSIVE dyno comparion between D series motors, stock and modified using my 88HF as a test mule,. I'm tired of this BS'ing. Let's bring out the FACTS people!!!
