Default b16a1 Vs. b18c1

Hey guys im going through a chrisis right now.....
I have a 91 crx hf shell and I want to swap a new engine in, I was just wondering if the b18c (usdm) was worth tthe extra 1500 or so Vs. the b16a. Its just a pain to get the b16s smogged nowadays. Im just looking for your guys' opinions. Thanks.

No. Get a B16 and Turbo it for the extra 1500. There yah go. The B18C1 does have more out of the box potential. Anyway, SEARCH.

with 1500 u can make that B16 way more powerful than the B18C and u can even rebuild it and have a fresh engine

Ok,
I have heard so many statements about smogging the B16A.
From a perspective that is WITHOUT smog control in my county
right now, I can't understand why it is so hard.

There ARE counties in my state (Tennessee) that have smog-tests, (ie;Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford.)
but there are also those that do not (Hickman, Dickson, MARSHALL, Maury)

I can't say that any of the swaps I have ever done have had any irregular emissions though. Is this a SOLE RESULT of modifications? It sounds like the B16 is simply hard to get through smog...
Can someone help me understand this?
Thanks,
Scott

b18c only $1500 more- its not that easy to do-i dont think its just a 1500 dollar diference. If u arent dohc to begin with, i had to basically buy a complete gsr swap, and buy almost half a b16a swap. if you go with that swap you have two options.
1. buy the hasport hydraulic mount kit, and a ecu jumper to use the electronics that come with that swap.

2. get a cable tranny and mount kit, and use a b16a distribbutor and pr3 ecu.

For the extra $1500 you could make your b16 more powerful than a stock b18c1, if that's what you want to know.

Just to clarify,

JDM motors are not legal in Cali.

If your car is registered in some parts of cali you don't have to smog.

This was a popular topic a while back. JDM motors can be smog legal if there was an equivalent motor sold here. So basically B16a3's, B18c1's and B18c5's cuz they were all sold here in USDM cars. I personally verified this with a smog Referee station. My buddy is a smog tech and the only motor excluded is guess what. B16a1's cuz they were never sold here in any Honda.

The real pain is wiring everything correctly Like if you do a B18c5 you got to wire it up OBD2 to match the US Type R and use all U.S emissions and USDM ecu for the matching engine.
