Under $6k, there are a lot of bikes out there that will fit your budget. To be honest, all bikes are plenty fast enough. If you are capable of wringing every last ounce of performance from them, you should try to go pro...

With that said, try looking into the CBR F2, F3, F4, or F4i. With the intro of the 600RR, the prices for the older bikes are dropping fast. Looks-wise it depends on you. If you just want to pose and look pretty, get the F4i. If you want a good bike to learn on and one that you won't outgrow too soon (if at all), look into the F2/3/4. There are a plethora of parts available for the older bikes, especially the F2/3.

The older CBR900RRs are also good bikes, especially the '98 model. I think there's two of those bikes for sale on this board. The 929RR is a great update, if you can afford it.

Don't forget to set aside money for insurance and gear. As for pictures, just surf the 'net; there are a LOT of pics out there.

Sidenote - maybe we need a sticky for what bikes beginners should get, too.

You're welcome. So you're located in the Lake Elsinore area? I go riding on Ortega Hwy/Hwy 76 sometimes. How close are you to that road (from the Chevron off the 5 to the Lookout restaurant)?

I just took my hatch down Ortega today to the Sony Outlet. I can't wait to take my bike there when I get it. I'm getting an 03 F4i soon.

Congrats on the bike! I love the F4i. I think that will be my next bike, and I'll save my F3 for trackdays. =D

Watch out if you go to Ortega on the weekends. Saturdays and Sundays after 9am, there is a large presence of cops (cars, bikes, and even a helicopter!). You'll also bump into some campers and people trying to get to Lake Elsinore (if you're heading towards the lake). Try to go early on a weekday (you'll still find some commuters) or go REAL early on the weekends...I went at 7am once and there was NO ONE around.

(sorry if you knew that already)

Yeah, I left my house around 10 a.m. Saturday morning, and I saw atleast 50 SS bikes and 75 Harleys. Some damn SS riders dangerously overtake me.

I wish I had a swap or my bike.

Eddie.

A swap so my car would be more fun and i'd save money on Motorcycle Insurance.
Or my bike (soon to be: f4i or 600rr or something similar) so I can be k00l like those guys.
LoL. J/k I love riding, I just couldn't afford it till now, and when Spring rolls around you'll be seeing me on a 2 wheeler.

But don't forget! You're in sunny California (although it's been cloudy lately), where the weather is good almost the whole year! I ride through almost all weather, except heavy downpours (but soon I'll have gear for that, too).

See ya on Ortega!
