How to tell if my roll cage is DOM tubing or not?????
Ok I just purchased a autopower roll cage from some one and he said it was the DOM autopower 6pt roll cage. Well i reciveved it today and my friend informed me the cage is not DOM and is just steel. He said because there is an inseam in side the piping that means its not DOM b/c DOM is completly smooth around. is this correct. any info would help me out a lot.
If it's a bolt-in cage, there might be a slip joint where you can feel inside the actual tubing that the cage is made of. If it's DOM, the inside will be smooth-steel smooth, without any discernable seam. You can feel the seam inside ERW tubing.

...then the product has been misrepresented to you. You asked the right question and got an inaccurate answer, which will prevent you from getting a road racing logbook from SCCA (or NASA, I think).

To clarify - you probably won't feel much in the way of seam on the OUTside but you will be able to feel it on the INside. On bare metal you can SEE it on the outside, where heat has discolored the steel.

I buy a lot of DOM tubing and none of it has any kind of seam or discoloration. I'm not sure that I have ever bought DOM that had any sign of not being a solid piece of tubing. The way I understand DOM is made, there shouldn't be any marking of when the original piece was rolled and welded.
