aftermarket ticket?
I have heard that if you get pulled over (for racing or whatever) that a cop can pop your hood and write you a ticket for modiying your engine. I have heard of people geting tickets cuz there air filter was to big and they didnt have a sticker or somthing. I live on oregon, has anyherd of this, or had this done to them?

Oregon cops aren't trained to recognize aftermarket part legality, if you ever get a ticket for something like this, take it to court and it won't hold up. Portland has a little different laws however so watch yourself there. Also Portland is the only place in OR that does emission tests.

you have your engine in your trunk?
haha... ive been asked a few times to pop my hood and answer questions about parts before just for a routine stop... had nothing to do with racing, speeding, wreckless driving, etc... i just told them that since the car is so old it needed these parts to make it more efficient and emissions friendly
If you live in cali.. it happens all the time...
anything thats not carb legal..
If the cops thinks it not legal..they let the courts figure it out

If you are caught for racing then your car can be searched for go fast parts. It falls under probable cause and is legal. Because you were going fast, they have the right to search without warrant for possible illegal parts that made your car go that fast. I cop is not certified to be a smog tech, but a CHP officer is. A cop may write you up to see a smog ref CHP guy. They can do a whole lot of ill shieet if you get caught doing somehting wrong.

In CA this is true, OR is totally different though, we get off very easy

I dont know that the cops are verry easy here, cuz in oregon city (20 min from portland) the cops use any excuse possable to pull you over. I have had cops riding me trying to get me to speed and other crap like that. but still not as bad as cali. what part of OR you from?
I have also heard that your car will not only be towed but also smashed if you are cought street racing on top of a verry large ticket. anyone know about this?

I'm in Salem, and travel to Albany and back frequently. Don't do anything stupid and you won't get pulled over. I speed regularly but have been pulled over only twice in 2 years (in my car). Once was when I was learning to drive a 5spd and killed the CRX twice with a cop behind me at a stop... the 2nd was not signaling out of a driveway... neither got me a ticket. The cops are very reasonable here, be humble, and listen to them and you will get off with a warning. If you were flat out doing something stupid you will probably get a ticket but thats the chance you take. Cops in Portland will not ask you to pop the hood without a reason, so don't give them one; unless Oregon City is part of Portland, they shouldn't ever ask you to pop the hood at all.
If you are that close to Portland you are close enough to a santioned race track to not have to street race. I have only raced twice on the street, the first time when I first got my car cause I was a dumbass, and the 2nd on an empty country road on the edge of town. Although I have no regrets about the 2nd time, I stand by my opinion that the punishment for street racing is in no way overkill.
You car can be impounded for racing and if you do not get the $$ to get it back in time it will be sold at police auction. If it does not sell (not likely with the dealers around here) it will then be scrapped.
Edit: Also wanted to add I have been pulled over for 5-10 mph over limit a number of times in other cars my parents, me, or friends have owned, and all these details do get attached to your license. I have not ever gotten a ticket so far, its all in how mature you act talking to the officer.

for the topic. they can ticket you for anything. courts are really the final call.
for whats wrong wit the westcoast. (notta dayum thing)
im from san diego. and the import race scene been here since 1992 at least for me. i couldnt even drive. watched my older bro and his friends. and then of course, there were the rare people wit mad flow who had the nice rides way back.
of course 14s cars were considered fast back then also. swaps were rare and very feared. the occasional 13s juiced up ride wit no interior. i even heard of faster but nothing i've ever seen.
maybe this is why west coast has it this bad. we're old skewl.
but then i dunno anywhere else other than diego and angeles area. so it might be me being a cali bum and jus naive.
might be the most strict. but i wouldnt wanna live anywhere else in the world before san diego. california love.
