Default Trap Speed vs ET

I figured I'd asked the professionals here.

There was someone trying to explain to me that the lower your ET the slower your MPH, because you get there faster. Granted when traction plays a role along with the many other factors, I can understand the minute differences in trap speed.

I thought your Trap Speed can tell you a ballpark figure of your ET and that they were directly related.

I know that in a turbo'ed car they have higher mphs but can run the same times as an NA car with a lower mph. This is all due to traction I presume.

Can someone explain more about this.

Not necessarily. Example: decent hp turbo cars on street tires. You simply cant step on the throttle until 3rd gear because you will do nothing but spin. By the time you can floor it youre halfway down the track = bad et and bad mph. On slicks on the other hand you can gas it all the way down. Better traction, lower et, higher trap.

well, if you were on slicks and you launched and just hooked up you will have a slower trap speed than if you spin off the line, but your et could be either depends on the car/setup i guess

hp has a lot to do with it. I've seen vipers hit he track and hit 10.8's at around 117, then single turbo supra's hit low 11's at 124-128. If traction is not an issue then the car with the most whp "Should" Have a higher trap speed. Wheel/ tire size also plays a part in it.

Taller slicks will give you a lil more MPH if im not mistaken. Maybe M&H would have some info to help...or some of the pros

taller slicks = taller gearing = faster speed at lower rpms
