Default Toda 'D' installation note.

Just an FYI: if you install Toda 'D's, you need to modify the mid-rocker. The VTEC lobes are big enough that the mid-rockers will hit the retainers if not modified. I found out the hard way, but fortunately did not have a catastrophic failure.

Thanks for the info.

What valvesprings and retainers were you using?

I am real interested to see the dyno graph for that motor. I think those cams are overkill for the compression you are running. Could you list the entire setup again? Thanks.

So Erick didn't tell you that the rocker needed to be modified when you bought the cam?

The motor is now 13.5:1 + compression , IB Spec 85mm Wiseco "Super Dupers". Combustion chambers welded by Joe Alaniz. Head milled 0.020". Erick did not tell me about the rocker arms. He did tell me that retainer to valve guide seal clearance could be an issue.

Dosent it say on the toda website that aftermarket or modified rockers are needed for D's?

Not that I have seen.
Erick's website says this: " These camshafts are high lift and duration, designed for use in road race and drag race engines. You will need custom valve retainers & valve springs, plus deeper valve relief cutouts in the pistons. Valve to valve and valve to piston clearance must be measured before the cams are adjusted using cam gears. "

I just noticed that the retainers were nicked along the edges when I tore the motor apart to change a few things.

I think you may see better results with a smaller cam. But I am REALLY interested in your plot once you get one. I would think that you would want more than 15:1 compression to take advantage of that cam.

How high do you rev your motor?

The retainers were not damaged so badly as to be unusable, but there was definitely some contact going on. Motor goes to 10k if necessary, going to the dyno this week if all goes well, so we will see where the cams peak.

wouldn't you really need modification to the LMAs, due the extreme high lift of the D's?

Don't know for sure if the LMA's needed modification, but I had 0.040" taken off the bottom of the LMA's, just to be safe.

thats weird , i ask him yesterday about the D's if the mid rockers were needed to be modified . His answer was no , you shouldnt need to . He hasnt had any issues or problems with that , neither have i .
also who put together your set up or did the building of your 2.0l ?
since the d's required a bit more CR w/ the new head mine is at 12.8CR , are you going to dyno at shawns ? that way we can compared #'s once your done and also mine since i need to tune again ...

I have heard of other people having issues with the rocker arms and 'D's, but mine "looked' o.k. I put the motor together myself. I may dyno this week at Church's, depending how some things go.
