R vs. 92 Talon TSI AWD
Stock the R after a few mods to both the Talon would win. Unless you do a major power adder and then it would be a good race..
A FWD Talon, then the R... but an AWD... come on, use your head before you talk.
Then a modded Talon... oh my.
thats true but i saw this type R take a Elcipse GSX with only cams intake and some sort of new ecu it took the GSx all the way with at least a car length and a half. And the GSX wasn't stock either so don't downt he R it has alot more potential in my eyes.
It all depends on how much boost the Talon is running. My old 91' TSI AWD ran a 15.2 stock and with just a boost controller running 16lbs of boost w/ stock turbo ran 13.40 all day long.
It all depends on the launch. It's very easy to get a GSX (=AWD) to launch on par with an ITR. Just make a normal 2.5-3K rpm launch and you'll be side by side with an ITR. This usually gives 2.2 60-ft times. Now that same GSX, if he would take the race seriously, would launch at least at 5.5 K rpm. This causes a 4-wheel spin off the line and 1st gear goes by in a flash. Doing this I get 1.8s 60 ft times with my '95 talon AWD. You don't need any mods to make these hard launches, so any eclipse/talon AWD can do it.
It is true that an ITR has better top end than a stock Talon/Eclipse, but an ITR will need the whole 1/4 to catch up to it. A shorter race should always go in the DSM's favor, no question. The shorter, the farther back the ITR will be at the finish.

ive raced one with my R. I only had an Iceman CAI. He had the Talon Turbo not sure if it was AWD or not. He claimed he had, bigger turbo, blow off, exhaust, intercooler, and a bunch of guages. He took me on the line but I took the long run. I was pretty surprised.
Just my two cents. I've been to several CMI races at Sac and I've seen a couple AWD Talons with front mounted intercoolers run 15.5. Don't know what other mods they had, but when you make a statement with on a front mount intercooler you better be running better that that, don't care what car you have.
Stock for stock?I don't think so. I am friends with the local club DSM pres.He has both a stock and modified tsi awd.Stock that is a 15 sec car with an extremely low trap speed. He can get me off the line by 2nd I catch him and third I am pulling away.On the other hand his modified one runs mid 11's on street tires and cuts 1.60-1.70 60ft times.
I have beaten my friends 91 GSX on a number of occasions within a 1/4mi. He launches at about 5k rpms and gets a really good jump of the line, around 3 car lengths. After I hit second gear I am able to stop his pull and by the end of third I'm usually beside him if not a little in the lead. 4th gear is all Type-R. I have on one occasion caught him in the middle of third gear while spotting him 2 car lengths. He bogged his launch bad which took away all of his advantage. These cars are very quick and are extremely easy to get good launches. After the launch though the AWD really slows them down. From a cruise an AWD DSM is not a threat as long as it is stock. My 94 3000GT SL was able to take him from 70mph.
Lets not get carried away now. Stock AWD Talons with high miles to boot. Can barely run the 1/4 in 15.5 seconds at a paltry 89-90mph. Those things are hogs when they're stock w/high miles. Granted the lauch is gonna be all Talon. But with a good driver the ITR will bury it! I've stomped on so many clapped out DSM's in my hybrid's and ITR's that it's not even funny. Now, bump into a serious DSM'er and you may be in for a spanking. But otherwise, blah!
I have a '95 Talon Awd with a 2.5 inch exhaust, k&n drop in filter and a greddy blow off valve (blow off vales DO NOT increase boost, the wastegate does), so I'm still running the stock 15 psi (2nd gen) as indicated by my autometer boost gauge.
I've done 3 runs at the drag strip, so don't call me an expert at this.
Best run with these mods was a 14.55 @ 92.1 mph. 1.8s 60-ft time, 9.1 1/8th mile time. A turbo car can be so easily made to have more power, as this goes to show - and I'm still running stock boost...
Just to set the record straight, even though my car is a Talon, I race a CRX in Improved Touring and autox an ITR in GS. Simply put, Hondas are great cars.

first gen dsm's are fast but the fastest stock time I've ever seen is 15.0....you guys have to remember that the ITR has LSD so a hard launch doesn't always mean wheel spin
Stock vs stock, it would be a good race if the R had an incapable driver. If he knew he was doing, the R should beat a stock AWD DSM. Now... add $75 in mods to the DSM and the R's gonna struggle in a 1/4 mile race... after that it gets a lot more expensive to get a DSM faster, but its not exactly cheap to make Honda's fast. EV.
I was going to reply to you Vasquez but then I read everyone else's response and realized there was no need!!!! I for one raced plenty of AWD Talon's when I was stock and walked them hard. Unfortunately most have also hit the mod bug and now can either keep up with me or smoke me!!!
