Default Tire size for 16x7" rims, please help

Hi guys,

I'm wondering about tire size as my Goodyears are worn out and need to be replaced, and I'm not sure what to get as the 205/45's looked a little small mounted on the car. I know 215/45 is a better match but tires in this size is hard to get over here, we don't get the Azenis in Europe unfortunately, one of the few tires available is the Michelin Pilot Sport's but they are $$$. I can get RE010's in 215/45 but they are also a bit expensive as they have to be specially ordered.
In 205/50 and 225/45 there are some more options, what do you think, will I have rubbing issues with 225's and is there any advantege of running the wider tires or am i better off running with 205's?

Oh, and my car is daily driven with a couple of trackdays a year (hopefully ) so I'm looking for a good setup for streetuse.

Are you sure about 205/ 55 and not 205/50

I will probably end bying 205/50 but if any of you have tried 225/45 i would like to know if theres any issues with them rubbing.

Yes I'm sure. Toyo offers the RA1 in this size. With a 225 width you may have to roll the fenders of your car.

Noticed in your signature you have Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, how do you like them?

How did you like the GS-D3 btw? I've heard mixed reports on them.

Is it the width or the height that you want to increase? I'm running the JDM16" wheel which came with JDM RE010 215/45/16 but interestingly they are more like a tall 205 as the tires didn't even protude past the rim lip.

I'm now running the 205/45/16 Dunlop Formula FM901 a pretty average tire and looking out for something better.

One tire I like the look of is the Brigestone RE01 which comes in a 215/45/16 size (206 wide according to the website) but this would need to be special order. I see a lot of modified imported Japanese cars wearing RE01.

The GS-d3's have been good but didn't last too long, I got 12000 km's out of them but my driving style might be a part of the problem here Very good tires in wet conditions if thats important for you. I don't have any other tires to compare them with as when I got the car a year ago the RE010's where worn out and I mounted my Nokian winter tires right away as the winter was coming anyway.

I guess it is mostly the height I want to increase as they are a bit smaller in dia. than my 195/55/15 Nokians, maybe 15-20 mm and just look a little small on the car.

I also have these tires on my car and I came to the same conclusion.

I have Dunlop FM901 205/45/16 for street tires. They suck. Soft sidewall, loud hum when driving, and hard *** compound. They don't chuck on the track though. I'll try those Goodyears tires next year.

I have Nokian 195/55/15 NRW for winter use. Excellent rain tire for fall months in Toronto, also very good for plowed roads here in the winter.

If I could afford it I would run Toyo RA1s all summer. These things rule in rain and dry roads.
