Sunroof shudder
I have the dreaded sunroof shudder when closing and it seems to slow right down to a crawl just before it goes in (G3). How do I correct this? I dont think its the motor thats dyeing. Maybe grease the rails?
you could try that. i've tried all kinds of stuff to get mine to stop and even had it replaced (someone broke the sunroof trying to break into my car), all with limited or no success. i've just learned to live with it.
There is a TSB out for the G3 "Moonroof chatter when opening and closing".
They fixed mine at the dealership - it's a bitch because you have to take out the headliner to get to most of the internals. You could try to grease the rails, and look for anything loose. You may want to read the Shop Manual where is describes how to adjust the moonroof.
GEE ******* WIZ HONDA - you would think they could make a damn moonroof that doesn't **** up, or an A-pipe that doesn't crack, or paint that doesn't fade...the list goes on. Honda is love-hate in my book....

>>I hope you are joking, go drive a ford for a year and come back with your list, let me know what you would rather drive.
Yeah - you are right. I'm just tired of dealing with car problems. The reason I bought a Honda is b/c they are supposed to be so reliable. And it's not like it's some new fangled thing that has the problem. I could MUCH easier understand there being a problem with VTEC or 4wheel steering or ATTS, but a moonroof, and power windows??? Exhaust system??? Not exactly new inventions.
But I guess the consumer reports numbers don't lie (too much anyway), and it's just a case of picking the better of two evils...

I'd be surprised if the moonroof/sunroof was even honda's design - be carefull where you make judgements because even honda buys parts from other companies - its cheaper that way.

Good point, but either way, it's Honda's product. They build it, they sell it, and it's got thier name on it. If they buy junk from some supplier and put it on thier car, it's still thier car, the car they built, a Honda no less.
As far as I'm concerned there are only a couple reasons for failure of mature automotive systems (moonroof, power windows, exhaust pipes, paint).
Bad build quality and/or parts or bad design. Either way, it's a lousy excuse, especially for Honda. Let's hope it gets better and not worse.
Peace...
