Default SMSP cat question....

Hi all

I have read in the archives about the SMSP cat, pictures etc but I have a header flange question:

It seems like the flange is slipped on and then the 2.5 inch pipe is placed in an expander and widened to 3 or so inches (rough guess)? Any advantages to doing this?

Also, is the SMSP style of flange absolutely necessary? Can a 2 bolt universal flange be welded to a 3 to 2.5" transition pipe from say Burns stainless and then this pipe welded to the cat at the 2.5 end? I would assume it did the same thing.

Anyone done this DIY setup and can post pics?

Thanks!

the "floating" style flange is nice because it will fit a wide variety of bolt locations for different style headers.
