Accord tire suggestions
I have a 98 accord that is riding on Michelin Energy tries with about 46K miles on them. But when i took it into the shop the other day they said i needed to replace my tires due to low tread and cracking. I was just wondering what tires you would suggest me putting on my car. Thanks a lot
Befor I got my 18's on my Accord I replaced my stock tires with Toyo Proxies. They are chaper then the Michelin's but I think they performe better then the Michelin's. The Toyo Proxies are a nice sticky tire so they grip the road really good.
depends on where you live really...if you live somewhere that has a lot of snow in the winter and rains a lot in the summer, a set of high performance all seasons is a good choice to go with...if you live in a place with not much snow in the winter and pretty dry summers, get some sticky dry weather compound tires that are "summer tires"...just as a few suggestions: BFGoodrich KD (dry tire), BFGoodrich KDW (wet and dry tire) Goodyear Eagle F-1 GS-D3 (good all around tire) Pirrelli PZero Nero M&S (good all season tire)...good luck

I have a '99 and personally didn't care for the Michellin Engergy MXV4Plus's that came on my car, slid once too often for me on snow. Of course, in Florida you don't have to worry about that, so maybe they are good for you down there.
Check out the Dunlop SP Sport A2, $58 / tire from tirerack. I personally have, I believe, the Michellin Pilot XGT H4. What I have is the tire with Sam's Club brand name on it, which is the Michellin Radial X (same tire (I called Michellin to make sure), just a different name so Sam's knows that they sold it).
Speaking of tire rack, be sure to check them out for ideas: http://www.tirerack.com . If you buy from them, expect to pay a local store ~ $13 or so per tire for balancing, mounting, stems, and old tire disposal. You can then buy a lifetime rotation from Wal-Mart for something like $20, which is well worth it since you should be rotating them at least once every 7,500 miles, and rotation normally costs ~ $15 by itself.

For stock replacements, on mine I've got Michelin Pilots and so far I've been happy with them. Got 31k miles on these and they still look and ride like new (nice and quiet), with plenty of tread left. Never driven these in the snow though so I can't say how they did.
I don't like these though as much as the Yokohamas I had on before (don't remember the exact model). Those things lasted FOREVER! Never once had a traction problem in snow/ice/rain anything, smooth and quiet yet handled nice and firm, and even as they wore down they still gripped in the snow. Would have kept them if both left belts hadn't of gotten destroyed by a damn protruding curb....

98accordvtec, let me know how you like your tires. i have the exact same tires on my 94 ex coupe, same size and everything. i think my stocks were 195s tho, so i'm a bit wider. i like em overall. i totally worked em though. the corner tread is 100% gone on the fronts. they lasted pretty long (almost a year) and handle real well, especially as they wear down. they're real soft at the bottom. i may go for something different, possibly narrower next time. i'm still deciding.
