HELP! Car is stranded. I think one of my axles broke!
Hey guys, I'm kinda stuck in a situation here. Earlier today I was driving regularly just going to the coffee shop with my girl, and all of a sudden my car starts wobbling and shaking like crazy. So I pull over right away to see if I had any loose lugnuts or a flat tire. So I checked my car and everything was fine. So I start driving again and when I'm almost at the coffee shop my car is still in gear but it won't go when I give it some gas. The rpms just keep going up when I give it gas. It still goes into gear and all. My clutch and everything is still good...so do you think I broke an axle? I'm a newbie at all this stuff...so I don't know much about axles and such. But my car is stuck in a different city. So should I go to the auto parts store tomorrow and purchase an axle and have my car towed to a local shop and have it repaired? When I look under the car I see grease or oil on both the joints where the CV boots ripped...I couldn't really see much because I didn't have my jack with me
. What do you guys think? I'm in a sticky situation right now. And how much would labor cost on replacing an axle? TIA.

i could really be the tech to answer your question because ive experienced a VERY similar event... got off the freeway, stoplight--turns green...i go... car wobbles unlike no other. proceed to drive. stopped and checked if i had a flat. started car. in gear...car wont move. i suspected bad tyranny. looked under the car and saw fluids leaking and what seemed like tyranny fluid from the smell of it (yes i can tell the difference). searched around for torn boots and found it (drivers side).

that explains the tryanny leaking fluid from some dump tube. you know what i did? i got 2 of my friends to help me push it into a secluded parking lot. we picked up the tools from his house...my very good friend then searched everywhere for a replacement. i got jipped for $90 but i needed it reallllly bad since i needed my car that day. ... we literally took hours just replacing the freakin' axle. theres more to this story but thats pretty much in basic form.
THIS IS WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
for a fact, you have broken an axle <---thats for SURE or maybe both sides in the most terrible situation... have your car get towed by a flatbet to your choice of shop and have them fix it. however, if you have my mentality and experience, i would tackle it on the spot and change it myself---with aid of a friend or two.
it will cost you anywhere from $70-100 for an axle replacement LESS the mechanics labor. .... hope i help a bit.
