Default Leaking timeing belt cover

My sisters 93 accord is leaking whatever fluid out of her timeing belt cover. it looks like the seal might be broken, but there is a puddle where it has been sitting, and its only been there for about 10 mins.

is this hard to re-seal, or should we just take it to a lube shop?

One of the oil seals has likely gone bad, as you said. Check the oil level, fill it up to the upper mark, and CAREFULLY drive it to a mechanic. This is no job for a lube shop.

It is likely a difficult task unless you're comfortable with disassembling most of that side of the engine.

The seal around the timing belt cover is to keep water and dust away from the timing belt and seals. It is not there to keep oil in.

Since you have such a big leak, I would guess the balance shaft seal is blown out.
But the car is ten years old so all of the seals probably are leaking and need to be replaced. If the timing belt is contaminated with oil, it will need to be replaced, too.

P.S.

No, a lube shop should not attempt to replace the timing belt or the seals. Check around for prices. The dealer will be the highest but they will know exactly what to do with the balance shaft seal if it is blown out and the tech doing the work probably could do an Accord timing belt in his sleep...

i would take it to a real shop as you will need a timing belt job ... the balencer shaft seal probally poped out and if you take it to a knowelgeable shop they will know to put the retainer in when they replace the seal this is a update kit the dealer put out sence this seal pops out often and make sure they only use honda parts so you dont have to worry about this problem again for another 90K
