My first post here, please read Thinking of getting a 90 Crx Si
Hello, everyone
I have never owned a CRX before. My 94 CX git totalled and I am looking to get a stock 90 Si with 100K miles. It is white the body and interior looks nice and it has 99 Si wheels. He wants $3000 with the wheels, $2700 without..
What should I be expecting from a 100K mile CRX? I need this for a daily driver. Can you give me some details about the engine other then the specs?
I have to make my mind up fast because I need to return the rental car tonight.
thanks,
Nikos

well there are so many factors...but i think for many of us who are still retaining our stock engines most have high mileage unless rebuilt...i know my engine had about 190K on it at the time of purchase, i've had the car for about 2 years and haven't had a single problem (that wasn't caused by tooling of course).
in my honest opinion though, which i'm not sure is the answere you are looking for, but $3K seems a little bit steep for that car. of course that all depends on where you are located too.
just my 2
EDIT: oh and other than specs i think the d16a6 is a very versatile and strong engine, a personal favorite of mine plus there is a lot of aftermarket support for it. Further in the event that anything does happen engine wise...there are so many of these things laying around cause of all the zc and b16 swaps that parts are really cheap and easy to find.

How is the body, and rust or dents, etc? Is the interior in good shape? Try and talk him down to $2700 with the wheels, negotiate with the guy.
Thanks for the advice...
I want to stick with Hondas but it sucks to be pressured to buy because of time... I do not want to take the bus to work or my wife's accord...
Sounds to me that even for $2700 with the Si wheels it wouldn't be a good deal.... waht do you think?
it has 104,000 miles on a bone stock motor
Thermal R&D exhaust

Put it this way, I bought my 88 DX with no AC and stock wheels for 2g's, it had 140k miles but the interior was ok. To me it seems like a good price, it's a 90 Si with AC no rust and barely 104k miles?

I'm gonna have to agree. Make sure you check everything out. Looks pretty clean from the pics. Look at the engine and under the car. I think that's a fine deal.

Treat it like you would when buying any other car. Give it the once over take it for a drive, see how it idles, accelerates, stops, etc. You can never be too picky with a used car. It looks pretty clean and for $3k seems like a pretty good deal. I picked my '88 DX up for $2400 but that was from a dealership and came with 12 month warranty.
that seems a fair price mabey a little high i got my 91 crx si with 70,000 miles on it for 3,500 but thats just what people are paying in california had a few uprgades like exaust and rims and new ac. all in all its a great little car and will last forever.

I agree with this.
I just saw, 2 weeks, ago a Milano red '90 DX 5 sp with only 60k original miles go for $2.6k. THERE are bargins out there IF you are paitent.
That price is the high end of "market value", in NJ,anyway. LOL
I just got a '92 Milano red GS-R w/ 79k for $3.7k. 100% stock. Very good++
condtion.
So, I say BE PATIENT.
Wait this guy out, he SHOULD come down.

seriously it all depends on location...in california of course there are so many of these cars that the price goes way way down.
but from the pics that car looks really really clean...so maybe $2700 wasn't so bad.

$4200. FOR an '89 CRX Si see my quote above for further info. LOL
I paid LESS for a newer car with LESS mileage and VTEC.
Paitence IS your friend.

I am also in the market for a hatch or crx. I have been looking for about a month or two and if you are patient most likely you can come up on a deal depending on your location. That car looks like it is in really good condition and if you need a car right away you might want to make him an offer. Tell him $2500 without the si rims unless you really like them. Or $2700 with the rims….. I am sure he is willing to work something out. Good luck

you can find a lot better deals for a crx out there...dont be in a rush.....i waiting a month and a half to get the car that i have now...and i did a lot of reseach and i am very happy with the results....
i paid 2350, for a stock civic si, 1991, 109,000 miles.....that was in february of 2003
but the body was a bit fcked up,
fixed the body for under 700 dollars, so all together it was less than 3000....i consider that awesome...i love my car..go for it

just wait a bit... I bought my 1990 crx si for $900 from some guy in chicago... interior was perfect, only rust was on the sunroof... so, if you wait and dont rush it, i'm sure you'll find a great deal...
