Making the interior QUIET- Part 2
There were lots of discussion going on about the differet methods that can be used to make the interior quiet. Dynamat, carpet padding etc...
I would like to use this topic to get the latest updates from people who have tried already, new approaches and ideas, Different possibilities( Ex. Weight is not an issue or 'Unlimited' budget), Details on how to do this, photos, instructions etc...
Looks like the old discussion got deleted from the archived topics. Hope this topic would be helpful for everybody

well lemme explain the way I did mine......... my goal was to reduce the interior noise as much as i can with as less money as possible.....
i used hi-temp mastic on the bottom of the car underneath all the carpet and i ran it all the way to the trunk floor, i also used hi-temp mastic to surround my trunk sides
my next step is to use viscoelastic on the doors, it is lighter and more flexible than hi-temp mastic and blocks double the sound but it does cost double the price of hi-temp mastic
finally if you still have rattles in some areas play a bass cd and look for where there are..... a cheap tactic many professional installers use is plumbers putty, just stick it wherever it rattles.... this serves to mass load the panel and lower the resonance which in laymans terms means no more rattles....... i did all this and my car still seems loud to me, but after riding in my friends integra his is much noticibly louder, i guess i just got so used to mine
this is a poor man's sound deadening project, you could always use 2+ layers of mastic on the floor of the vehicle but then it'd start being a rich man's sound deadening project
the hi-temp mastic and viscoelastic is available at mcmaster.com search for acoustical dampers
now, if the budget didn't matter this is what i would do:
4 layers of viscoelastic on the floor and trunk and roof, 4 layers of viscoelastic on doors, 4 layers of visco on firewall, 1 layer dynamat hoodliner or cheap copy under hood, superquiet expensive tires, 2 layers undercarriage undercoat, 5 layers bedliner or undercoat spray in wheelwells......... i think this is overkill unless you are rich and are an extreme audio buff

i'm going to take out all my sound deading material...i'll see how much it all weighs

heh, the first thing I will be doing to my civic when I get it is remove everything from the interior, all carpets, seats, liners, dash, everything.
the only thing that the interior will have is black paint on the metal, SS dash with guages, speakers, batery (and tray) roll cage steering wheel and 2 seats, and maybe some diamond plate rivetted to the floor for mats
. I am hoping for lots of road noise.
back in my days as a air cooled VW buff, they used to say to use some stuff called road kill. I heard it was some good stuff, but never got around to using it.
