hide-away test pipe, read
hey guys. i'm going to be doing a test pipe through the stock cat and wondered if anyone had done anything similar.
we were planning on torching out the center pieces in the cat (important stuff) and using an air hammer to clear the remaining. then run a 2.25 through extended inlet/outlet and weld into place.
making it look like a stock cat, but is really a testpipe. has anyone done this? im just checking other options. thanks.

no more heat shield, we thought of that also. i'm sure we could find one, but just in case the inspector hits the cat (like theyre supposed to) it'll sound functional.

all they would have to do is turn on your engine and then they will realize right away you have no cat cuz ur car is goin to smell

You're going to have quite a lot of difficulty trying to fit 2.25" tubing through the stock cat.

haha yea, we got it done. we used a really big pry bar and a hammer, and some patience and hammered everything out. then we widened one side slightly and ran 1 7/8 pipe and welded it inside.
on my car the 2.25 testpipe smells a lot worse than my friends car does.

Yeah, that was my point. The stock cat. is nowhere near 2.25" in diameter.

iowa baby no emissions or atleast they dont care. i just testpiped mine today and did header. straight pipe with two nuts welded on so i could put sensors back in and done. i dont gotta hide anything. haha good idea and good luck with it.
yea it worked out well, made the apexi dunk sound deeper.
my car w/ testpipe makes it really buzzy, kinda grr, but i can feel the difference (thats in an accord)
2.25 testpipe > 1 7/8 hide away pipe > catalytic converter

Daniel...link dont work....lol
As for this idea, there was a thread about this last month. Some guy from a shop successfully did it. Also, there's a guy on here (h-t) that sells heat shields for $50 that you just weld over your test pipe to make it "look" like you have a cat. In California, especially in the bay area and probably socal, cops are truly **** about the smallest things. They'll pull you over and try to find anything wrong with your car...and yes my friends have had cops shine flash lights and placed a mirror underneath the car to check to see if a cat was present. I've been running a test pipe, and although it doesnt smell all that great, the power makes up for it...IT SMELLS THE WORST WHEN YOU RUN A CHIPPED ECU & a TEST PIPE, but then again, the car RIPS!!!...also it has the nice throaty sound as well. The stock cat just restricts too much.

why dont you just get a test pipe, and then put a heat sheild around it? it sounds like you.re going to be going through a lot of trouble for something that can be solved in a much simpler manner.
maybe im wrong. school me.
