In the spring i will be going to the Famous Gap for a couple days with some sport bike friends. I have a 2000 GSR with bolt ons, what else should i do to prepare? please reply with experiences you have had, thanks

Just check the usual fluids, brake pads, and tires. Outside of that, don't drive beyond your ability. The Dragon doesn't give second chances!

 

hrm, i suppose you can change your brake pads out. But remember it is a public road, so you shouldn't be going 10/10ths the whole way across. I live about 45mins from there, and go 4-5 times a month. Shoot me an email or something when you go, and ill try and meet you up there. I have some videos from the Gap if you want me to post them

 

Get plenty of sleep the night before - it takes attention.

Have a light breakfast - folks have been known to hurl.

some of these suck, some are pretty cool.

 

Well make sure you check your car out because you wheel generate alot of tyre squeal if you push hard or you drift techuiq also brakes get used about as much as good road course..so prepare accordingly. Remember there are times when there is not much of anything except maybe a few trees to stop you from dropping down the 1,700 feet mtn. I plan to go up there sometime soon. If you guys don't mind chasing me in the rain hehe. I did around 63mph at the apexi in the corners..just whatch the rear it starts to drift if you push it too hard but the camber corners help alot. Yeah I know I'm crazy doing 80-90mph on wet mtn road. But I wasn't going to waste my chance to drive it some. But this was in slight rain so it wasn't that bad. But do not do that in mild to heavy rains.
But Steven will drift some those corners you guys will probably back off like most people have who went after him into the corners. I just enjoy the ride. Like a rollercoaster you gotta love the rush.

 

Mike~ The proposed ITR-NC Fall meet isn't going to happen. Most of the guys have a lot to do in Sept & Oct. with track schools, NOPI, Speedvision, etc. It just seemed like late Oct or early Nov. was as early as we could do it together. Seems the weather is too iffy at that time of year. If you do roll down for NOPI, it would be a shame if you didn't roll back the long way and hit it though.

When was that decided? I was still under the impression that we were going to have a run in October. Is that now a definite no?

 

To bad Hopefully there will be a meet before the winter. But yes I think I will be partying with the ITR-NC Crew At NOPI

 

Jason~ If you want it, plan it! Just as I stated, Sept. gets hectic fast with NOPI & CarGuys events. October isn't any better because of more CarGuys events & Speedvision coming to Charlotte. We must not forget the Fall foliage "tourist tours" that also happen during these months in the NC/Tenn. mtns. Late Oct. or early Nov. were the only logical dates. The weather is just too hard to predict at that time, so "yes, it isn't going to happen," at least by me. I refuse to coordinate an event I know I can't pull off!

Chris~ Unfortunately, The American LeMans and Speedvision GT/Touring cars have been canceled for Lowe's Motor Speedway this year. Their last event will be Road Atlanta.

Almost sounds like a good occasion for an ITR meet.

I'm not pissed...just stating the facts as I knew them yesterday!

Fact: Sept 2-4 Labor Day weekend
Sept 8-9 CarGuys Summit
Sept 15-16 NOPI
Sept 22-23 Open
Sept 29-30 CarGuys CMP
Oct 4-6 Speedvision Series Charlotte *cancelled*
Oct 12-14 CarGuys VIR North
Oct 20-21 Open I assumed the annual "Harris Halloween Party" would
Oct 27-28 Open happen during one of these 2 weekends!

That left 3 weekends open out of 2 months for the core of the NC group. That doesn't even take into account factors such as cash flow, relationships, personal obligations, school, autox schedules, lodging, or weather. Options such as a day trip came to mind, but that wouldn't be justifiable for the out of towners in my opinion. Anything later than October and weather becomes very unpredictable. Sooo....I decided it would just be better to put everything off until the Spring. Since SV is cancelled, that opens an earlier week for ya! You got the ball, run with it!

 

Count me in too! It would be great if Racer-X and 94 Accord could make this one too... And Carlex too!

 

Cool, I think the Harris bros are planning something as we speak...I guess we'll wait to hear from them.
