Default Jacked up exhaust story

My bad ppl kinda long,
Here is my day...started out really nice. Got up this morning and went to a job interview at 8am, the view went GREAT , the sun was out. I had just received my new ApexI WS catback for my 96 Accord the night b4. Was driving my B20 Hatch so I went home to switch cars and uncover the accord which had been sitting for a lil over a month. 6 to 7 year old leaking Greddy PE. Next I head towards my boys shop w/ my new exhaust in the back seat. As I get to the light where I turn into the shop a state troop stops me. I haven't been speeding or nothing just enjoying the nice day, this was about noon time. He tells me that in the State of Maryland I am not allowed to install any mod exhaust on the car but the stock one. Now I'm not sure if that is true or not but this is the second time it has happened to me. The first time was about 2 years ago. I had that fix it ticket wrote off . That blows that i get a fix it ticket while heading to get another exhaust installed . Right now I just went ahead and installed the new WS and i just love that exhaust...sux for performance gains....but soo very quiet which I like for that car. My question is does anyone on HT know if there is a real law that says no modified exhausts. I know there is a sound level law...but both my exhaust were pretty quiet. I dont know of anyone that would write off the ticket for me . I mean there are so many ricers out in the state of Maryland w/ those crazy loud mufflers, my car is completely clean, nice rims and ww lip kit on the body, nothing more...not even close to rice...and i get this . Opinions please.....and help and information wanted

Thanks for listening to my rambles.....was a good day too till this

The best thing is to look up your state laws, they should be available on the internet, or you can always take a nice call or visit to the your local DMV. If they tell you it's illegal, ask for a print out. If it's legal, do the same - and keep the copy in your glove box. I wouldn't recommend pulling that out if they pull you over for speeding or something, but it'll help if they are ONLY after you for a fix-it ticket. (don't tick the cop off by arguing with him). Also, as for the ticket, if you can find that law and present it in court, they will let you go. Usually the DA or his assistants will be writing off tickets in the lobby before you enter court....and you could present this to him/her.
