Im lost. Need your opinion. Detonation.
The car is a del sol with a d15b7 turbo 8psi frontmount
Heres the deal....I blew a head gasket this past weekend. Replaced it, all my timing marks are lined up, cam gear is set at zero, stock cam, and i set the timing to 14 degrees. Im running 93 octaine, with 1/2 degree retard per pound of boost, at only 8psi and i heard what i believe was a little detonation in first, at about 5,000 rpm. So i let off real quick and i could see in my review that it puffed out a decent cloud of smoke. Not sure on the color, it was hard to tell. The weird thing is i was running the same timing (14degrees) previously with less boost retard and had no problems. What should i do....Im scared to get on it. Could it be bad plugs? Beats me because i ran with those setting forever with no problem. Maybe i need to reset ecu?

The gasket wasnt bad at all...I could even see where it was blown. I didnt let it get real hot so im sure its not warped. Once i saw it creeping up like a line or two i shut it off, so it didnt get real hot.
Would i need that much retard at 8psi?
