SOHC vtec head....safe redline
i am doing a mini-me swap on my d15b7 and i was wondering what rpm the stock valvetrain would be safe up to.....i would kind of like to bump up my redline without having to spend a lot of money on the head. thanks
I know most people that read this are gonna say bs but I used to have a 95 Si Hatch in 98'-00'. I had the basic bolt-ons i/h/e and a custom pyr-racing chip. Peter chipped it so the redline would be at 9200rpm's. I was a bit scared at first to rev it that high but after a couple of test runs I had no problem revving it that high. Granted I made no power after 7500. I used to dog on this motor and it never gave up. I even turbo'd(Only 5 pounds) it with the same chip. No piggyback system or check valves and it ran perfect. I might of been just a well built motor from honda but yeah basically I used to bounce of the rev limiter at 9200 while doing burnouts and the motor stayed together.

try 6800 rpm stock, 7000 rpm with the cam retarded 3 degrees.

I made power to 6800 rpm with the cam ADVANCED 1 degree. I will have the dyno to post tomorrow.

I know. Besides, it probably has alot to do with the timing my tuner setup on the Hondata too, so I guess the fact my cam gear is advanced one doesn't prove anything.
Oh well.

would that mean that i could use stock valve train(98 sohc vtec) for up to 8000 rpm with an upgraded cam?
I have p&p milled head?

Why do anything if you wont do it right? Just spend the money or dont do it. Why does evrybody try and be cheap and of all things with hondas? Face it with small motors you need to spend.
And when you come around you can make a sweet motor that pulls to 9k. have fun.
