Default HyTech vs. JDM itr header dyno comparison

Here are the plots and the spreadsheet with all of the information. The list of mods are in my signature...the cam gears are set at +3.5 IN, and +1 EX, which provided more of a midrange gain while tuning on the HyTech, when the headers were swapped none of the settings were changes, if the exhaust cam was put back to 0, there would have been around 3-4 more peak hp gain on the HyTech, unknown change on the JDM, with the loss of some of the midrange power...

One of the things that needs to be taken into acount and is not shown is the acceleration data, which of the headers allows the car to accelerate at a quicker pace, unfortunately I do not have that data I was informed by the dyno operator that the HyTech header moved through the rpm band at a much quicker pace than the JDM header during the testing, just wish I had the figures to prove it to you Have fun....

The JDM header is very impressive, good "low" end power (1200-4000rpm). Plus it was cooler when you dynoed the Hy-Tech manifold. Thanks for the post.

Is it worth it to pay more than twice as much just for 8 HP? I can't decide.

And I believe it's $1,600 United States dollars if you want it polished. Austin, care to confirm/deny this? I remember you saying that Mike paid an extra $300 for the procedure.

More than THREE times as much... Whether or not it's worth it is up to you.

BTW, I paid more than twice as much as the JDM for my header, and I am happy

itr501: keep in mind that his car is not stock, so the difference is probably less on a more stock ITR..

I wonder where the less costly SPOON header would compare here?

I'm sure it would beet out the JDM header, but could it compete with the HyTech?

At a recent dyno day in MA (ACS Racing) a guy with a GSR and AEM, Skunk2 Mani, Spoon Header, and N1 exhaust made 167 HP corrected at the wheels. For a bolt-on GSR with stock cams that's pretty good!

I also wonder how the Toda header would compare. The Toda has huge primaries, right? SMS also has great performance...

I have to sort through it all and replace my Neuspeed 4-2-1 next year, it's killing me

Correct, an extra $300 for the polished version...though John did eventually throw it in for Mike after he used his header as a show piece for so long.

Impractical for my application, I also did not like the thought of the thermal load that the turbo will add when I am driving around in 110+ degree weather, or on a road course for 30 minutes with a 95 degree day...

It looks like you're running a tad on the rich side. If you leaned it out to 13:1 you can probably pick up some more hp all around. Very good graph.

And this is on stock compression still??

I decided to only do minor tweaks until John has his exhaust finished...then I'll play with the full throttle settings, until then it is working fine for me.

Yes, it is on stock compression, however on the DynoJet 248C I am producing 191 whp.

I haven't figured out why the JDM 4-1 header has such a lousy mid range, from 3400 to 5000 rpms the thing takes a nose dive, I noticed that on my dyno with that header also. I ended up selling it as the mid range loss was too great for my liking.
