Bolt-in roll bar hardware question...
So I yanked the four-point bar out of the Scout last night as part of my ongoing rust repair project. I had this put in by a local 4wd shop a couple of years back.
They used 9/16" grade 8 bolts and lock washers. ~1" diameter washers where they could, thinner/smaller washers elsewhere. No backing plates anywhere. Each mount does have six holes though.
When I get done with the repair, I plan on welding backing plates in, and possibly an additional plate on top. Is 9/16" an adequate bolt or should I go larger?
What do typical 4-point bars come with, hardware-wise?

Get a rule book and use what the sanction that u plan on driving with requires.

I don't think a lifted '76 Scout 4x4 belongs on a racetrack
I'm attempting to compare to what Autopower/Kirk bars come with to ensure that the hardware I use is appropriate for the use.

NASA rule is 3/16" thick backing plates with 5/16" grade 5 or better hardware and three+ bolts per attachment. This sounds very close to the plates/hardware that was provided with my Autopower cage. I'd assume since race cars go faster than Scouts, that meeting these specs should be fine.
