My guess is he will still be on the team. Keith is a good guy and from what I have seen, he holds everyones *** in line out there. He is a get down to bussiness guy.

I'm just helping out here and there for the rest of this year...

We found this weekend that the car will go quick if it'll ever shift! That fortin tranny sucks!! We put a bigger tire on it and it's 60's are consistent 1.32s, which is not bad for that size tire, but nowhere near what we expect out of the new car. We have a couple changes in the works for the current car. A new clutch and bigger cv joints are on the way for the next race. We can't run a bigger tire until we get both of those sorted out.

why did he chose a fortin?? I thought with that kind of budget a mendeola would have been the way to go. mendeolas i think have the same dimensions as fortins but are known to be quite a bit stronger... although it wont even matter on the new setup

the prob with the fortins is the shift forks and shift rods flex and then it gets stuck in to gears and then **** starts to happen....

After the problems we had over the weekend with the fortin, we tore it apart monday to find that the shift rods were bent

heard from sources that the Kubo and co. had custom fabed shift rods made that helped some.

you need to go to .750 shaft an make it longer so you can support the end in side the trans and steel shift fork.... i now the fortin i do work on ther offroad car

Just for those who have never heard of these trannies....

This is the 'HD4S' model (heavy duty sequential 4speed). which list for $17,500
they have several other, less expensive models. Most are designed with straight-cut gears and open-face dog-engagement.

These types of trannies are commonly used in rear-engined or mid-engined off-road vehicles like dune-buggies. The Mendeola's were built to replace the VW "bus" trannies, which were one of the strongest aircooled trannies.

Mendeola list the HD4S as good for 900hp, but that may be for a sand buggy, which doesn't take the same type of shock that a 900whp, 10,000rpm, 33"x11" slick, anti-lag, 30psi standing still, 1.25 sixty foot, FWD drag car would put to it.

You've done your homework professor! lol From what i've heard, mendeola doesn't have one that will handle the power chris makes.

Kenny still has QS for next year...

Fabman, do you mean the rods that go from the shifter to the tranny should be .750? I'm not sure what they are now, but they look more like .500. What wall tubing should we use?

tony the rods that the shift forks mount to they are .625 if you go to .750 and make them longer on the inside you can make a plate that bolt to the inside of the case and thu bolt to the case then bush and support both ends of the shift rod so it dos not flex and bend...

You are talking about the rods inside the tranny that the shift forks attach to, not the chromoly rods from the shifter to the tranny,right?
