Default PR3 in LSVTEC good idea ... bad idea...

I'm building on a budget so I want to use the PR3s on my B16A1 on my LSVTEC. Is this a good idea?
I've been told that I'd be running 11.5 compression. And apparently this is more than the more popular ITR pistons. Any reason why more people dun use the PR3? They too high?

thanks!

well the reason for the higher cr is that the the b16 has less stroke and the ls will be higher with those then the type r's cus they were desigened for the stroke of a 1.8 here check this out
http://www.c-speedracing.com/h...c.php oh yah and ther both gonna be 11.6 but ones like 11.63 and the other like 11.62 so yah id just use whats cheaper

actually the ones that are close are the JDM ITR and the pr3. i bought some pr3s from a guy on h-t, and almost put them in my ls/vtec, buy they came like a month late and i could not have them installed, i had to settle for gsr pistons and now i am running s2stage2 on 10.0:1 cr i just need to find the time and the money to throw the pr3s in

Very good idea. I enjoy my PR3s. 93 octane 17 degrees timing Florida heat, no problems. Just do it.

I have PR3's in my b18c. No detonation, and about the same compression as a type R block

PR3's are excellent, but you need to upgrade your valvetrain.with the higher compression and hp gain, the head is more susceptible to detonation, not to mention the valvetrain is pushing around 10+years(if it's a 1st gen).

i had a set of type r pistons but if you are using factory rods they have to be machined to fit the r pistons. i returned the r pistons and got pr3's, they dont have to be machined and they have higher compression. i would say go with the pr3.

Type-R pistons are not nitride coated, they are moly coated. The coating holds oil.
not meant for heat protection.
