Default VTEC engaging question?

When I am in 1st gear sometimes the VTEC won't engage until around 7k rpms. It doesn't do it all the time and I haven't noticed any other gears that it is doing this. Anybody have any suggestions on what is going on?

first thing is to check if your oil. second thing would be your tach is probably off somewhat. I didnt believe it was possible to be that inaccurate, but mine is off by about 300rpm. third could be that since it revs up so fast in 1st gear, by the time you actually feel or hear vtec, the needle is probably well past the mark on the tach.

Yea most of the time people are having VTEC problems, and its due to lack of oil.

My buddy had the same problem with his, He actually needed to clean the VTEC filters out. The tubing was just getting clogged. He was throwing a code though and you didnt mention that. Hope this helps
