Default Which amp would work the best??

Okay, I have 2 12" Alpine Type-r's in a ported box, and I have the Alpine Type-r 5 1/4" front component speakers(40 watts rms), with the Type-r 5 1/4" 2-way speakers(35 watts RMS) in the rear... now, should I just get 2 amps... one to power the subs(alpine MRD-m500 500watts x 1) and one for the rest of the speakers(alpine MRP-T130 65watts x 2) or do you think I should just get one multi-channel amp (alpine mrv-f450 120 watts RMS x 2 + 200 watts RMS x 1 in bridged mode)... I have a Alpine 7894 headunit... it has the built in amplifier 4x27watts rms. it will run the speakers, but will that be enough or will they end up sounding worse? I'm just confused by this... I'm a n00b and am confused ... thanks for your help

You won't be able to find a 4+1 amplifier that will be powerful enough to power both of those 12's and all the interior speakers. If you have the money then buy both amps now, if not, buy the amp for your subs and leave the speakers running off the deck power for now and later buy a 4 channel amp for your interior speakers. As for which amp will work the best for both applications, well you have to look at several different things. read my response in these threads

Actually there are 4 channel amps that will power your set up just fine, but I wouldn't recommend doing it that way. Use two different amps. A small 3-400watt 4 channel for your mids and hi's, and 600-700 watt amp for the subs.

cool thanks for your help guys...

my last question would be... could I use a 2 channel amp for the front and rears, and just wire them in a series... like wire the front two together, and wire the back to together... thats how my subs are set up so I was wondering if it could work for these also...

that way I could save some money and buy a less expensive 2ch amp and get both of them now.

Well I stand corrected about the 4+1 amps. The last time I looked for one of those amps was over two years ago. I guess I stopped looking once I realized that I would need at least 1200 watts to run my (2) 10's. There are definate disadvantages to 4+1 amps. If the amp blows....you have no sound at all. As for wiring all of your interior speakers to a 2 channel amp...It is possible but I wouldn't recommend it cuz you drop the impedance and double the power. You could blow the speakers. I'd check the specs on the speakers first .

plus there are a *FEW* 6 channel amps out there... IIRC it's either 4 regular speakers, a sub, and a center channel, or it was 4 regular and 2 subs.. I can't remember now lol.

One more option, if you don't mind the used route...

PPI AX606.2, PCPRO650 or a PRO6800 - all are exceptional 6 channel amps that should do just fine in that config.

Another, somewhat risky option is a Soundstream Reference 705S - but they have a nasty tendency to die early deaths....

Or you can just amplify your front speakers and use the head unit's power to run the rears. Most/all of the sound should be up front.

The PPI 6 channel amp is one kick azz amp I had one for three years then sold it to a friend and it's still pounding away like it was 1 day old.

rcurley55:
I see that you have a lot of ID products..I used to have (2) IDQ DVC 10's along with my Eclipse interior speakers on my PPI 650 and man was that loud for the little bit of power that they require. M sister now has the 10's and they still bump like new.

IDQ v2's are happiest when ported IMO. My ID run stared with a IDQ12 V2, since then I've owned everything in my sig + IDQ8DVCs (never should have sold them), CXS52's, IDQ62s, and I've used some ID8v3's. I just like their products, and b/c they are on the west coast, I can get hands on help if necessary. If I had to do it all over again, I never would have bought the processors - mounting 4 rack mounts in any car, let alone a civic, is a challange.

get the jl 5 channel, it has around 150x2 for the front, 50x2 for the rear and like 250 constant for the subs. plus you don't have the problem if one part of the amp blows it won't work at all, it's basically 2 separate amps in one case. the jl amps are way underrated, very powerfull.
