To Buy A Type R or Not???
Ok I know that everyone here is going to say yes to this question so I am not real sure why I am posting this here, but I have the chance to buy a 2000 PY Type R with about 50,000 on the odometer, it has Comptech intake and a strut bars in it. The asking price is 20,000. Not that this really matters but the Blue book on this car is only 15,000. I am very well aware that this is arguably the best handling front wheel drive car available, but I was looking at buying something in the range of a Supra, RX7(like i previously had), or something like that when this opportunity arose. Please let me know. The best way would be to email me at kneelingwarrior@hotmail.com
Blue book does not represent an accurate price for the Type R.
Anyways, if youw ant something like a Supra or Rx7, I would recommend you not getting a type r. For 20k, you might as spend more and get something much better.

don't expect itr to be in same category as supra or rx7.. its a fun car.. but just not the same as supra.. and not the same as rx7
but for price, i say you can find better deals than that..

I understand that Blue Book is almost pointless but if i decide to sell it or something then that is what the value is based on. Why would you not recommend getting a Type R if i wanted a Supra/RX7?

if you going to daily driving it and drag racing it, then the ITR will be a bitter disappointment compare to a supra or RX7...
you will not be able to go to malls, movies, etc...
sleep deprivation will also own you

because supra is better in every way except weight maybe, you might not get tossed around as much.. but you'll forget that with turbocharged monster capabale of making lost of hp with stock block. rwd + tt sounds like fun.. i own itr.. but much respect for supras..

I don't think you should get it. The price is because of it's exclusivity.

Are we talking newer supra/rx7 here like the mkiv and 3rd gen rx7? Or older models? If you were comparing between older models then ITR definitely... but well kept newer gen supras and rx7s are in a totally different league then the R.
I am talking 93-98 Supra (MKIV) or 93-95 RX7(FD). I understand that the ITR is in a different class then the Supra/RX7 but if you had 20K cash which would you buy, i have owned an RX7 and that is an AMAZING car, but reliablity is not so hot, this shouldnt be my daily driver. So what do you guys think now, if you need more info please just ask.

its easy to maintain/repair integras.. you can expect great reliability with hondas as you keep maintanance and they're not alreayd messed up by previous owners, even so, repairs or replacements aren't that expensive compared to what you'll pay with higher class cars (supras). itr would be one of more expensive hondas to find replacement parts (parts that make it different from other integras). but still reasonable in my opinion.
now.. for reliabilty of supras.. just ask owners of such cars on supra board.. - i know nothing of toyotas and supras.. but its definately NOT in the same category as itr.. i see nothing in common between the 2.. or all 3 cars.

OK, the RX8 is out, it is rated at 245ish and is only dynoing at 170ish...for some reason i think thats bad...as fasr as the reliablity of a Toyta I have a camr yfor a daily driver (38+MPG!!!!!!!!!!!!!) The 2JZ block is "bulletproof" with abuot $3000, I guess the question that I really need to ask myself is...Do I want to continue driving in a straight line or do I want my driving experience to include a few turns...Im pretty sure the RX7 is out so I guess we are donw to the ITR and the Supra unless you guys can think of another car that would be worth the money for me to buy...
what kind of driver are you?
Purist - go ITR
Power hungry - RX7 or Supra TT
If i dont own a VTEC, then i'll own a Rotary.
Rotars kick *** and make gobs of power - best power to weight motor built and if you think about it, only 1.3 Lt.

Hmm...if you want to incorporate some turns can't go wrong with all wheel drive, but don't count on that for higher end runs. I your talking about canyon carving, can't beat the itr...small and quick all u really need is some good tires, plus the ITR is easier to drive and learn on. The Supra has high horse power with just plain bolt ons, but the parts are more expensive..but you will never have to open the motor to make some hp its been proven with a good tunner...The best all around car will be the 7, but true the realability is not that great...if it was i would be driving one.
I'm talking from a stand point of which I own a turbo type R and drivin the shiet out of my buddies supra and rx7. The only major down turn in the R is the amount of fu*kers that are willing to steal them.
also one last point, the supra is not only a straight line car..i've seen it handle in on the canyon runs..but it takes a good amount of experience to control that big beast. Plus u can always boost and build a type R to 400 hp and you'll be flying with the supras for a while..until the 4 banger can't handle no more.
Type R.............nicely tunned track car
Supra...............Bling Car with a **** load of hp (use for domestic killing)
Rx7.................could be the best sports car japan has made (but motor kinda sucks)

I say supra/rx-7 because overall they are just superior cars to the ITR.
If you wanted to sell it, you must see what the current market is. That's the only way so far.

this is nice but if you really wanted to go fast and beat domestics you can also go with a civic or somethign of that sort and just get a type r engine and you wont have all of that bling factor in it
but if i had that much money id go with the supra because they are harder to steal and attract more attention but you barely hear about someone stealing one they always go for the type R because they know they can get the parts and people look for them more often so id say SUPRA

Best front wheel drive handling car does not = best handling car. A miata can outhandle the R. So if you looking for a supra, rx7, and type r, don't get the type r

i agree. you can't compare these cars in one class. each is in its own class. i would suggest going for another RX7 or get a supra.

I thought that was the skyline? Even if it is overrated.
IMO, if you don't want to just drag race the car: ITR.
IMO if you just want to drag race: Supra.
PS ITR drag racers: I'm not saying "don't drag race the hype-r" but if you are going to purchase a car for drag racing, an ITR makes less sense that the boat TT. I added this PS cause I know you guys get your panties all up in a bunch.
I don't like the supra. I've driven stock and fairly high power ones and except for flooring them they were extremely boring in my opinion. They are heavy which I absolutely hate as well.

Look at http://www.nadaguides.com
This is the publication used by dealers and Insurance Co. The ITR value should be higher in this book.
