What is the all out best race suspension you can buy? I will be driving my car on the street alot but comfort is not an issue. Money is of no concern...at least thats what I am going to pretend.
Heh, if you think a full-race suspension will be tolerable on the street, you better think twice. I run the Mugen N1 dampers, which are approximately $2700 from King Motorsports without springs, along with a 26mm Mugen rear swaybar -- I retained the stock front bar. My current spring rates are 600 front and 900 rear, of which are pretty damn soft for a race-only setup, but it was intended to get comfortable with moderate oversteer before moving onto anything insane. Personally, I LOVE this setup, as do the few people I have let lap my car. HOWEVER, I don't think I could handle suspension this stiff on a street car -- driving through the pits is bumpy enough
I have seen the phrase "race suspension" used on this board all too often when talking about street setups -- yes guys Apex N1, Tein HA, etc. kits are NOT race suspension. So make sure that a full race setup is what you are actually looking for. As for the Mugen N1 dampers, they recently introduced the NZero dampers which are the same shock bodies as the N1's, however, they are revalved for much lower spring rates for street use.

Yeah APEXi N1, TEIN HA/RA, etc ain't race suspension. Mugen/SPOON N1, ZEAL Super Function, TEIN N1, Buddy Club, Ohlins Fully adjustable, etc are full race suspension.
Personally I will take SPOON N1(made by SHOWA), ZEAL Super Function and Buddy Club if price my budget is not and issue. But I will sure get lighter springs for street. Maybe not front 16k and rear 14k kinda setup. Coz there is no perfect even kinda pavement like u can get on a circuit, if the springs u use are too stiff the performance will get even worse on the street.

flat out, no budget restraints? CRUX engineering. AWESOME stuff, can not be beat. big $$$ though...
Motons, JRZ, OHLINS are all top of the line equipment. You can go all out and get Penske to make you a custom shock for you application.
However unless you really "like" to spend money, I don't see it justified to spend so much more money on shocks.
We are running the Koni double adj race shocks that are mounted inverted. They are perfect and cost less than 2 Motons. It's true they do not have remote reservoir, but are still very good. As far as suspension goes, a set of coil overs with eibach race springs are perfectly good. We're using Carrera coil overs. Spend the rest of the money you have saved for testing and development. This is the most important aspect of a "race" suspension. You can have all the best parts, but if you haven't found the best setup you will not be taking advantage of them. A difference between a "very good" and "best" suspension pieces will only be felt if you have the "best" suspension setup perfectly. Anything less, and you could reproduce the same quality handling with a lesser setup.

Spoon N1 dampers are the best I ever driven . Spoon is selling the same damper as they used in their N1 races.
Other then that I will recommend Zeal's Super Function. These are the ones that I am running and they work great on the track . Since they are full aluminum damper they are lighter then Spoon (Spoon = made out of chromoly steel).

For ultimate race setup,I'd like Ohlins, Moton, or Penske. For something I might use on the street occasionally, Tein RS/N1, Zeal Super Function, and Mugen N1/N0...tho, the Tein RS and N1 are the only of that bunch with separate compression and rebound adjustments.
AJ PwR: I thought you were running Buddy Club coilovers on your EK? Do you find the Super Functions too stiff for street driving?...I was told by Endless that the Super Functions' valving is fully track oriented.

By the way, for those of you that are more focus on performance, rather than a name of an eating utensil. Here is a snippet from the King site in reference to the Mugen N1 dampers.
"This is the Mugen damper used by the Integra Type R Super Endurance Series 96, 97, and 98 champion machines. In the Civic, the 93 to 98 Super Endurance (N1) Race and Intercup Series champions also used Mugen dampers."
Also, keep in mind, Realtime racing (Speed Vision World Challenge team) has been using Mugen N1 dampers on their cars since thr '97 season. Since then, they have won the '97, '98, and 00' season championships.
In regards to suspension setups like Ohlins, I will give you an example of the complexity of the proper setup procedures. In World Super Bike racing, the teams that are sponsored by Ohlins have the option of purchasing their front forks for a measley $55k. Included with the price is a specially trained Ohlins technician that provides on-site service and tuning of the forks with the team for one week. THIS should give you an idea of the knowledge required to extract the full potential out of these types of setups.

Hey Striker,
Seeing that the Mugen N1 dampers are $2700 (springs are about $200 extra) and the swaybars are $370 each (if you even want the front bar), I don't know how you arrived at a total cost of $10k.
Using simple addition, you can see that this totals $3640.

Spoon are a popular name for those who participate in street race or weekend race in Japan. Mugen has a big name but not a very popular name for street parts. The parts they used in their cars are totally different then the parts they sell to public.
Spoon and Mugen are manufacture by Showa and they are both good dampers. I believe there will be no BEST race dampers but I do believe drivers are always the key man to determine.
Mugen does have good reputation in Racing but did anybody try anything else?? Does it mean other brands are not good??? For example ,Ayrton Senner can make any brand famous if he's still alive.
