Any Opinions On The K&N FIPK?
There's actually the FIPK as well as a Typhoon Intake System, the latter made specifically for Acura, Honda, and Mitsu. I never hear anyone talk about these here. Is there a specific reason? Are they bad, or because of all the AEM and Comptech talk, no one considers these products from K&N?
Wow, great, thanks for all the replies folks. This is why I love this board. I am ordering the Typhoon Kit right now. I'll let you all know what happens after I install it.
fso- I'm guessing that people IM'ed your their responses, right? (If you're serious ordering it.) IMO, the kit would not gain much since the tubing from the throttle body to the filter is aluminum or some sort of metal. The tubing will get heated up and it'll lose power w/ increasing temp. I would love to see a dyno of before and after the install...

thats pretty awesome...got the dyno sheets?
At 4500rpm and beyond, torque jumped ~6lbs until redline, also a steady increase in horsepower (8-10hp) until it peaks at 7500rpm with a 11.7hp increase from stock.
No loss of torque or horsepower prior to the gains either.
The intake pipe is plastic, very similar to an iceman intake. The filter element is a regular K&N unit, but to the rear and the right engine side of the filter is a heat coated aluminum shield. When the hood is closed, it'll make for a pretty good heat shield as it sits flush with the top edge of the rear/side pieces.I'm analyzing the dyno plot again, and I made a mistake. Here are the figures as best as I can describe them...

Wow, and all this without any danger of sucking up water and damage the engine, at a cost less than any other system out there to my knowledge. I almost did order the Typhoon Kit last night, but the FIPK it is instead. Now, how was the installation? Were there instructions provided? Thanks for all the info Supersonic DC2.
Oh, a couple of other questions: How much was it, (no prices listed on the K&N Site), and I wonder if a kit for GS-R would fit a Type-R, since nothing is listed for the Type-R.

I'm considering the K&N kit for my SC GSR also... I've seen pricing from $189-$210 depending who you want to gouge you... I hear it can be found a little cheaper if you shop around...

I never actually installed it, because the guys at K&N did it for me...and the price was free since I they needed more dyno figures on the intake and used me as a test car. I dont think the GSR FIPK will work on an ITR because of the difference in intake manifold location...i'll try to swing by K&N and see if they have the FIPK in ITR application.

It's funny you said that; I saw the M's Super Cleaner last time, and it said "MADE IN USA by K&N" - it looks exactly like the K&N (Japan) Ramcharger.

Also, the M's Super Cleaner...which I think is pictured on the JUN Civic in HyperREV vol 31. is actually a K&N hyper charger (pic below of a Euro R) rather than a Ram charger.
That's really weird...I went down to the K&N HQ on a mission to find the K&N filter ram charger (w/ cfrp filter shroud). I spoke to a marketing manager and he says it's only available in Japan, and that K&N had a deal with a japanese guy (whose name I cannot recall at the moment) who makes all of the cfrp to go along with the air filters. My guess is that K&N USA supplies the necessary air filter element only, and the rest of the design is solely Japan based.

You are correct. I get the 2 units mixed up. The M's is just like the Hyper Charger. Even the filter is a K&N. I like the Ram Charger too; strange why K&N doesn't offer it here:
