Has anyone tried Twin Trac for an LSD? It's kind of interesting...

Seems like it might work but aren't the gears too weak?

I think the general consensus is that they do work, to an extent, but they will defiantly decrease the lifespan of your stock diff. You'll basically have a time bomb in your tranny.
