Default I think I screwed up this weekend

Hey guys, I haven't posted here much before so I figure now is a good of time as any. Ok, I've got a 94 Integra sedan with a JDM ITR swap (Motor and trans). It's out of a 99 model so it's the 98 spec swap. Now for the story, it was my first time back out on the track in awhile and was feeling kinda jumpy about running it. Well, I stage up, launch and get a great run in...until I get passed the 1/8th mark. I was shifting from 3rd to 4th at 8600 rpms and misshifted so I went into 2nd. I was only in 2nd for a split second before my foot slammed the clutch back down. Ok, my question is, what exactly could I have screwed up by doing this? I found that my A/C belt was flipped over and that my axles had a few teeth chipped off. The motor seems to be fine, no tapping or anything, but I'm still getting a weird "whine" when accelerating. If any of you guys could provide some insight it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Michael

first thing that comes to mind is bent valves -- you say that it's idling fine?

I would do a compression and leakdown test to check for bottom and top end damage... If you kept it under 9 grand or so, you should be fine - but you won't know for sure unless you check.

Lol, yeah Kevin, but I didn't rip the heads off of the flywheel bolts It's idling fine and there's still no tapping from the head. I'm going to take it back by Jim's when I go up to Birmingham this weekend and see what he can find out.

Michael- Hey, this is Shawn. I met you at Steele this weekend (I was in the black CRX with the guy who had the clean red EG hatch). Did you have this problem after we left? Because when we were still there, you were talking about an axle problem.

If you need any tools, or a place to work on your car at, I've got a nice garage in Bessemer, and a ton of tools (all Snap-On and i've got a compression/leakdown tester). If you could use a hand, just IM me on here, and I'll be happy to help out, plus I've got gobs of experience with hondas.

Hey Shawn, yeah, this actually happened before I talked to yall. I was still kinda pissed about when I met you guys so I wasn't really talking about it. It drove home fine with just a slight wobble in the steering wheel at higher speeds (May be alignment or wheel weight issues). I'm going to let Jim drive it Thursday or Friday and see what he thinks. Thanks again guys.

Later,
Michael

Well, now I'm starting to get worried. I just pulled the plugs out. 2 of them were coated in oil. Now is this normal? They also look a little burnt considering they've only been in the motor for 6k miles. Guess I need to keep it away from 8600 for awhile.

the whine could be a simple throwout bearing or a clutch problem..

been there..

If you have added ES mount inserts and Linkage inserts.. its a good idea.. makes misshifts way less likely

Brewer!!! Hey man, yeah this is Roach. I'm living down here in AU now, you need to hit me up sometime.

Houston, I do have the ES motor mount inserts right now, but nothing on the linkage. Guess I know what I'll be picking up this weekend.

I did this back in Feb. I bent 4 exhaust valves, broke the A/C & PS belt, broke the clutch/pressure plate, and messed up the outer CV joints on the axles. I didn't let my foot off the gas when I did my "quick" shift and I was in 2nd for about 2 seconds. Compression was fine after I got the new valves, valve springs, retainers, cams, and P&P on the head. Might as well while the head's off, sounds like a good time to do some work.

Dammit man, I don't seem to have bent any valves (No tapping), I did screw up the A/C belt, and I still think I've got some issues with my axles. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

i understand the concept of a mishift reving your engine to damage, but why wouldn't the fuel cut come on immediatley and not let it rev over the stock limit of about 8500?

Mechanical over revs are not protected by the rev limiter
