factory turbocharge ?
do they have BOV ? the reason I am asking coz I saw a new wrx last night and it
has that bov sound, wondering it is the turbo or the speaker bov
or maybe he installed a new turbo setup ?

you will find a bov on any turbo, aftermarket or factory
the factory one(example: eclipse, wrx, etc)'s bov are quite because the air that came out of the valve is connected with a hose(which go back to the turbo 's air compressor.
aftermarket bov are generally louder(alot of them have setting for sound).
the guy on wrx might running higher boost, he upgraded his bov to hold the additional boost i think.

generally all you have to do is put on a intake and you can now here the whoosh sound. or on a wrx they can remove the intake resonator since intakes are worthless on a wrx with stock turbo.
also aftermarket bovs are generally designed to make the sound louder/better.

most turbos have them, but not all......check out the 2.3 turbo fords....any year xr4ti, mid to late 80's thunderbird turbocoupe, mid 80's mustang svo.....xr4ti had a t3, ran 15psi stock, and had no intercooler or BOV....the later model turbocoupes had t27's, ran 15psi, had a top mount intercooler, and no BOV whereas the earlier TC had a t3, no i/c, and ran 15psi with a wimpy cam.....svos all had a t3 with a top mount i/c (smaller than the tbird) and ran 15psi....none came with BOV.....2.2 ford probe used a 1" bosch BOV though, but only boosted 10-12 psi depending........some saabs didn't have BOV, and even the earlier GN with the t4 didn't use a BOV

a wrx does not have a blowoff valve
it has a bypass valve
same efunction but it recirculates the intage charge. you will find blow off valves on cars with map sensors and bypass valves on cars with maf sensors.
the fun part is when people put blowoff valves on maf sensored cars and immediately wonder why they run rich and have drivability issues since they just fuked for a/f ratio.
some blowoff valves are made to use a recirculate kit as well to be used on bypass valve equipped ars as well to get around the issues that would otherwise occur.
