Default skunk2 stage 2, with minimal gain

Right now I am running an ls/vtec (gsr head) with all the boltons, gsr pistons, stock rods and crank, skunk valvetrain (with stage 2s). Right now i am running about 10.6:1 cr, maybe a little higher due to a milled head. when i first drove the car i definitly noticed a little more lowend, and a lot more highend (7K on pulls like a fiend) but i am plagued with the low redline of the ls. but i would think that the stage 2s, even untuned would make me a little faster. but i am still getting beat in the high end by my roomates lude si (with jdm h22a swap i/e only) and he doesnt beat my by a little, he flew by me at the top of third.
2 questions:
-what cr should i be at to really take advantage of the s2 stage 2? i heard its high but never a solid number. i have pr3 pistons under my bed, that would give me like 11.7:1
-is there anything that i can do (adjusting cams) myself before i can tune my car? i have adjustable cam gears (intake is +1 exhaust 0)
any help would be greatly appreiciated, jdm lude must die

i have stock jdm itr cr and they work just fine.
you really need to get the redline higher to really notice the power.

thats for damn sure, i have been researching that quite a bit. the latest that i could find was to keep my stroke, but to use the longer B20 rods to give me a better r/s ratio.
do you have your r tuned, if so how much of a difference did it make?
does anyone have any experience with using b20 rods in an ls/vtec? what crank would i use? bearing?

hmm, well tuning will almost certainly get you more power..

I have Skunk2 stage2's in my car and I noticed a huge gain over 6krpms and lots of new low end power that wasn't there before... I don't know what kind of # they made for me, because my clutch went out the next day after installing them!#^%@$#^$!^^!#%!@!@#$....

But this thursday I will be getting a new clutch, and trying for some more butt dynoing while ajusting the fuel settings and vtec crossover... I don't want to mess with actual cam timing untill I am on the dyno machine.. I'll keep you posted

after installing my skunk stage 2s for the first time i was very dissapointed.. but after a good a header and some tunning on the dyno i fell in luv on how they pulled in the upper rpms.. stage 2's are not drop in cams, and even while tunning there harder to tune than jun cams.. but worth every penny spent

most likely need more compression and do u have port work done? if not some good undercut valves and seat work and bowl work will help those cams breath , i suggest getting hondata and tunning also are u runnin a stock ls bottom with ls pump? if so get a gsr oil pump if u want to keep ur motor

b20 rods are the same as ls rods.
so swappin them wont do you any good.

your problem is not having enough compression for high lift cams
and not revin high enough.

i suggest rebuilding your block with some b16 pistons, z10 block girdle, vtec oil and water pump, balanced bottom end with arp rod bolts.

then you shall rev up safely to 8 grand or higher with proper valvetrain.

What tranny are you running notsure? The LS tranny? I would assume that the non vtec LS tranny would have longer gears not really suited for staying in VTEC... that might have something to do with your topend... H22 gears are short too...

I don't keep up on the DOHC specifics though... just trying to help...

to use the skunk2 cams i would run nothing less than atleast 11.5cr, if you plan on staying the way you are just get the stage 1's. without tuning dont plan on getting big gains with cams, i have stage 2 cams also, and my base run was like 168 or something, now i have 195tuned. on yeah and im running 11.5cr. with cams tuning is the key

Default suggestions

Running a JDM GSR with bolt on's (see sig for time). And i was wondering if head work, valve train, and skunk2 stage 2 cams will net me in the 12's with a stock block. Of course with Hondata and tunning. Long story short will the stock JDM GSR pistons be sufficient enough for the the Skunk2 stage cams? Thanks

i wouldnt get stage 2's with gsr pistons, upgrade to jdm integ type r's and a slightly milled head, thats what i got, it runs great and reliable.

ok. here is what you should do. go with some ctr pistons. a PRO-FAB tri-Y race header. you will be a god on the streets. also tune that car too. thats the main thing you need to do especially with big cams. what kind of manifold and throttle body are you running too? i broke 192 horse and 132 torque with stock block and head. ls-vtec tuned.

lol with crane stage 2's i made 186whp, with the s2s2's on the crane stage 2 tune, i made 198..thats a pretty big gain untuned.. btw..the car STOPPED making power around 8600rpms..but it didn't flaten out until about 9 you really need to rev these cams to almost 9 grand to see the full effect..
My motor is well, far from stock, still a stock block but the CR is around 11.8, which is ideal for these cams.. their not small and require good bolt ons and head work to see the full effect.

As for cam timing, i haven't fully tuned the gears out, but so far i'm +4 on the intake, 0 on the exhaust.. and the car is wicked on top end..and still keeps the low end power.. my vtec is set at 5700rpms..and well its a very quick car..i'm installing itbs on it as we speak..so ya..i'm shooting for deep into the 220whp range.
