Opinions on LS/VTEC....
I will be building a LS/VTEC motor and I need some opinions on the parts I'll be using. Let me know if you've had good or bad experiences with certain parts, or if something works better than what I plan on using.
Here's the list:
Bottom end (B18A)
Crower rods
Pistons (JE's or Arias or ITR's?)
ARP bolts
Blockguard
B16 oil pump
Moroso oil pan
Head (PR3)
Crower valve springs
ITR or CTR cams
Ti retainers
ITR or Skunk2 manifold
310cc injectors
Hopefully this will result in a strong and reliable motor. Any input is appreciated. TIA.

Looks good. If its all out race then I would go with the Moroso pan, but too much $ IMO for just the street.
You won't need a blockguard for all-motor.
Be sure if you get ARP rod bolts they are for LS rods. I bought mine from the catalog and they were for a GSR. ARP couldn't understand it either when I called them.
Good luck.

Yeah I figured the block guard wasn't necessary. I was thinking of running about 11.0 C/R, maybe a little higher. This car is pretty much just a race car, but I'd still like it to be streetable. Can't afford to run race gas all the time.

For full drag use 310cc injectors for street use all you'll need is 270's and as for your choice in slugs I would use JDM ITR's they will be perfect for what you wanna do. I also agree toss the block gaurd it will just cause you to run hotter than you will want to.
take that blockguard off your list, I have a high comp ls/vtec and tonight i just finished taking out the blockguard, runs to damn hot!! don't do the mistake i did, almost cost me my motor.

Good idea EVO....go OEM ITR pistons. They are inexpensive and give you the numbers you want. There are many LS/VTECs and GSRs running OEM insides and they rip!!
I've decided to go with JDM ITR pistons and Eagle rods. Crowers are good, but just out of budget. With the JDM ITR slugs, what would my approx. C/R be? Around 11.0 or so? Thanks for everyones input.

yea block guards just heat soak your block on n/a applications.if you are having a race car with street driving options get endyn 12.1 they are not to expensive and larry will gauntee no detonation. also any good rods should allready come with rod bolts. and 270 cc injectors will work. you are forgetting ignition and how to control your fuel.
rather then the block guard i would suggest boring the cylinders and resleeving them. this serves a few purposes. it will give you a perfectly round cylinder to completely reduce blowby, there will be no scores on the cylinder walls, and you can use oversized pistons. little bit of money but definitely good for long reliability. if you use itr cams you may as well use the itr valve springs, i think they're cheaper then the crowers. look into portflow as well. high quality there. on importreview.com there is a valvespring comparison you should read. i'd allso suggest all new bearings for the entire block. a spun rod bearing can be a real pain in the ***.
