Are my stock pads good enough for a 5 minute enduro race?
For the last race this season, my SCCA club is going to hold a 5 minute enduro this Saturday on a cart track instead of a regular autocross session which I think is going to be a ton of fun. Results will be tabulated by using the total distance traveled during that 5 minutes.
My only question is about the brakes that I have currently. I have a G Stock 2002 Civic Si still running with the stock pads on them. They have worked well so far for 40-60 second autocross runs, but would it be recommended to upgrade my pads to something like HP+'s or do you think that my stock pads will be sufficient for this? I just don't want to find out 3 minutes into my race that my brakes have faded to the point of uslessness.
Anyone with experience with this and advice to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

for 5 min.. ?? you should be more than fine.
i used stock LS pads at CMP for HPDE1 i felt brake fade during the second track session. and each session is about 20 min long.
5 minute =/ enduro..

If you are at all concerned, buy a set of pads and put them on. Stock should be just fine. You might also consider bleeding the brakes if that has not been done for a year or so. I would check that you have adequate lining anyway.

Rmember, it's a cart track with lots of braking and no cooloff time like a big track. Maybe 10 seconds between brake applications on the longer parts with speeds ranging from maybe 30 to around 60. A fair amount of heat gets generated with very little time or cooling air to get rid of it. I know my stock GSR brake pads would cook with 3-4 applications hard enough to activate the ABS going from 60-30 and no longer be able to activate the ABS, even on the stock Michelins.
If your stock brakes can handle similar abuse and still get the ABS going, they will probably be OK. Of course the last weather report I saw was for 50 deg and rain, so fade may not really be an issue.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I guess I'm all set then as far as the brakes go.
I was calling it an enduro, but I guess I should have clarified a little better than that. The Solo II board referred to it as a "enduro-style" race.
Being the complete newbie at autocross (or racing in general) still, you've all helped me a whole lot over the past year in this forum whether you've known it or not.
Thanks
