strange engine mount bracket on my D16A6...
I was swapping out the D15B2 yesterday in favor of a D16A6 when I noticed the timing belt engine mount brackets were different. The A6 has a wierd stamped steel C-shaped bracket that bolts to the front of the engine(where a PS would be) with 2 bolts, and the back of the engine with one bolt(where the alt. bracket is).
Now, every other D-series bracket I've seen is a cast piece that bolts under the plastic timing belt cover. I couldn't understand why this one is different until I was changing the timing belt and saw the block was damaged where the normal bracket would bolt to the block. It looks like I have some kind of OEM retrofit bracket. I know it isn't a one-of-a-kind piece, because it has "HA", "JHP", and "pat. pending" stamped on the bracket. Anyone ever seen or heard of this before? I'll have to post a picture tonight, because it's too wierd to explain...
