Stock Honda stereo with amp and sub
Got my HU stolen, and I plan on having the shop put my stock unit back. Is it worth it to hook it up to the amp and sub or just try to sell the amp and sub?

It's worth the few extra dollars. Hell I think I even have one of those adapters that was in my civic for about two months. I'll sell it to you for next to nothing. The install is easy as hell to do. E-mail me if you want to buy that adapter from me.

this is my exact setup...stock HU, line out converter, 12" MTX sub & MTX amp. it sounds great for the price ($200, considering i got the amp and sub cheap and built the box). install is cake, i just split the wires going to my rear speakers.
some amps have speaker level inputs which makes the whole thing even easier.
best thing about it is that it's stealth, nobody's going to steal my stock HU.

You have got to be kidding me.....Wal-Mart stereo is better than a stock unit. HAHAHA! Everyone has there own opinion. I wouldn't put wal-mart **** in a pinto if you paid me.
Man if you don't want to use the stock head unit, I have a 5yr old Sony head unit that is ten times better than that Wal-Mart crap. It's a tape deck with 6/10 disc changer controls. It's not broke I just upgraded to an Eclipse head unit. I'll sell it to you for like $50. It has three sets of rca outputs @ 4V each pair and a wired remote. If you or anyone else is interested...drop me an e-mail.

I'm not kidding you and what I meant by a wal mart unitI mean Pioneer and so on that they sell. And for you to try and sell him a Sony head unit tells me alot about what you know.....

FIRST OFF you don't know what I know because I OFFERED to sell him my Sony unit. You may not like sony but I don't Pioneer. We have different oppinions, but that doesn't mean that you know how much I know about car audio. If that is the case then how much do you know about me now: Everything in my car except the amps are Eclipse. I have (2) Aluminum Cone 10's powered by (1) MTX 1500d Mono amp. Paired with an MTX 6304 4 channel amp. Comp series 6.5" and 5.25 point source speakers in the front.....OH and (2) PPI 1 farad caps w/ digital readouts.......... Now tell me about how much I know about car audio by what I have..........YOU CAN'T cuz what I have doesn't mean jack ****. I could be just some punk who bought what the sales guy wanted me to buy, or I could have some knowledge about car audio.

i would take lots of OEM decks over many aftermaket decks. people who generally thinks aftermarket deck sounsd better must be liking distortion more then i guess. hey..its the truth, but who would be wrong with what u like more?
OEM decks are units just to get by. You can find much better in the aftermarket area. Not to mention sony's are like the most problimatic more main stream car audio brand than any other.
I agree and disagree with you....agree with the OEM decks.....
but disagree with the sony issue. I've had Pioneer, Kenwood and Sony decks in my cars. The one that lasted the longest.............Sony.
Just my .02 cents and opinion To each his own.

Any pics of that system? And everyone I have seen using sony products in any comp. or even just a daily driver have had to shock mount their decks, and even then they didn't work very well....but like you said, to each his own.

You talkin about pics of my system? At this time no but I can get some in a few days. I have some film that I need to develop, so it will take a few days to do that and then scan them in. I'll post pics when I get them.

You can easily add an amp to the factory deck to power a sub. You can even use a stock deck to aftermarkets amps for your front speaker too. I've done many. It sounds fine. It will never sound a good as an aftermarket one as it will be the weak link, but for what you want to do, add bass, it will be fine for now.
Don't bother with the $60 walmart deck. Your stock deck is much better built and teh walmart pos has not real sonic benefits. sure it may have rca outputs and a remote turn on lead, but it probably has not detachable face and even if it does, all your friends will make fun of you because you'll have to worry about taking off the detachable face for some flea-mart pos deck so it doesn't get stolen. It will not be worth all the headaches. Go with your original plan.

You have a set of 6.5" coaxials AND 5.25" coaxials up front? If I had to guess, they'd be in the doors and in kickpanels. If this is the case, it must image and stage excellent.

Once again, I meant not a wal mart brand deck, but the pioneer kenwood and uggg..sony decks that they sell. You can do what you want, but the benefit of sound reproduction starts at the source which is your head unit.

Your close. I have 6.5" components with the mid-bass driver in the rear deck and the tweeters in front by my mirrors and the 5.25" are in the front doors. The 5.25" are actually a combination of components and coaxials. They are wired just like a componet speaker and have a seperate crossover but they look like coaxials. Great for sound quality without having to drill any holes in the door. Check them out at: http://www.eclipse-web.com/ go to speakers and then scroll down to the bottom to point source series. As for image and staging.....
I will have pics of my system that is under construction by early next week if anyone is interested in seeing it.

Yeah, don't bother with the Pioneer HU from WalMart. Your OEM HU is probably made by Pioneer (mine was), so it won't make that much of a difference. I had that exact setup, hooking up a 5 channel Alpine amp and Infinity Kappa speakers to the stock HU. I thought it sounded great, until I switched out my HU. It is the weak leak in any audio system (car or home). You should be fine with that setup to get you by for now though.
