Stainless steel valve seat

Default Stainless steel valve seat

I have a 35mm Tial wastegate and I seen that I left out the valve seat. Is this a bad thing? What does the valve seat do? Should I put it on? Thanx for any help

it definitely needs to be in there to seal the valve
