another intake question...
Alright sorry to repeat a popular asked question but I never find the same answer...My friend has a 95 Accord EX 4-cyl and I have a 97' 2.2cl (same engine). He has an AEM cold air intake and I'm ordering an AEM Short ram tommorow...
Which will be louder at wide open throttle? Short Ram or Cold Air?
I've come to the conclusion that short ram will...But he says his cold air will be soo much louder... Anyone know?

id have to say the short ram...it has less distance to travel, plus the filter is sucking in air closer to you so it will sound louder to you. its kinda like exhaust. what would be louder? full exhaust on ur car, or NO exhaust whatsoever, not even a header.

the short ram will be louder because the filter is closer to you since its actually inside the engine bay. The cold air intake is inside the fender walls so it wont be as loud as the short ram. LOL..but dont you care about the hp gains more than the sound it will make?
p.s. I have both cold air intake and a short ram intake (one of those ones you can make either short or cold air) so I have noticed this in my car.

if that is your reasoning then why even pay $150 for an AEM short ram..when you can buy a generic one for ~$50 for the same gains.
anyways the shortram is louder since the pipe is shorter, the longer pipe cuts down on noise. imo, shortrams get annoying since you always here while the cai is only gets loud at WOT.

ill sell you my no name short ram intake (it sounds very loud) fits accord, for 15 dollars + shipping, give me a PM if your interested. did give me some hp gain too, somewhat noticeable.
No disrespect why does it important, which one is louder? Is that the only reason you’re choosing one intake over another? If that is, then you have know clue about how the import game works. Pick the intake that gives you the most power gain or the one that will not hydro-lock you motor under a hard rain. Question like this are not liked on this board, because they are a waste of time. On this board we try to offer technical and useful advice. Sound doesn’t matter unless you’re in a choir. Sorry to bitch but there are better reasons to mod you car other than the way it sound.
Well ya i have AEM CAI right now...And it sucks with the bypass and my car is dropped almost 2.5 inchs soo without the bypass i get a little paranoid. And I was just wondering the difference in sound...Sorry
get the AEM short if you want it legal, or any other big name one....and of course a generic if you don't care. The short ram, eh, in theory I thought it'd be louder too...but in my experience, none of them really are any louder than another....actually, over an exhaust, it's hard to hear one. I think outside of the car the CAI is much easier to hear ......the short ram I could rarely hear from the outside.....Inside, I can't tell
